Hi red

TPC=The President's Challenge..
The presidential physical fitness challenge. I began in March (needed something to get me motivated) and earned a bronze medal at the end of July and am working towards a silver medal. I love watching that little red bar get bigger. :agree:

Congrats on the bronze.

Awesome! You seem very committed, getting the silver will be easy.

Jogged today!!

A month and a half ago I tried jogging (very sloooow jog) around the track at our local park (it's 1.5 miles around). By the time I got to the 1 mile marker I was huffing and puffing, my knees hurt and my heart felt like it was in my throat. I had to stop and walk the rest of the way.

Today I had alot of energy and thought, what the heck, let's see if I can do it. Not only did I jog around the track ONCE, it felt sooo good that I jogged around the SECOND time. A whole 3 miles!! :agree: I wasn't huffing, my knees didn't hurt, it was a nice slow pace, no stopping....

That made my day :)

Can't jog everyday..not good for you..so
today I walked 3.78 miles for 1 hour 10 minutes.

zedneser,

Hi there.

I totally agree with you on the jogging, at least until you're a little lighter. I had to stop jogging when I reached 170 pounds (I'm your height) it was just too hard on my body while carrying all that weight, and it wasn't getting it OFF me AT ALL. (I gained 30 pounds in two years jogging 10k 3x a week. Wrong diet, wrong training for my body)

Have you considered lifting weights? Nothing ever got me as lean as weightlifting has. Cardio is NOT useless, but it's vastly overrated on it's own as a mechanism for getting lean.

It's getting colder...

Jogged today 3 miles. I think that's it for jogging this week. Don't want to overdo it and hurt my knee.

Right now the only weights I'm lifting are the 5 pounds weights when I do the Core workout tapes with the stability ball (weights focus on just arms). I guess I should note that...

I have used the Kathy Smith's "Use weights to lose weights" videos (too lazy to go downstairs and check if that's the exact name). I was using 3, 5, and 7 pound weights (focusing on arms and legs). I may add that back into my routine pretty soon. I had forgot about that video. Thanks!! How many days is it recommended you can safely lift weights (like every other day or every three days)?

I haven't tried any heavy lifting yet. I don't think I'm up to that yet. I could barely get through the Kathy Smith videos. My goal is to be able to do pull ups eventually. I have never been able to do one. EVER! I want to lose the weight but I want to be strong too.

Just realized the time and I need to go to sleep .
Take care.

When you lift heavy, it's in short sets with rests in between. You'd be surprised how manageable it is. 3-4 days a week in a split routine is pretty much it for almost all lifters. I started with three (first two years), moved into 4 about a year ago.

And it's heavy leg work that really speeds up your metabolism, not cardio or upper body work. It's all necessary, but for different reasons.

Let me know what I can do to help get you started when you're ready to get this moving along.

Did 40 minutes of the "Lift weights to lose weight video" (arms and legs)

*Thanks Built (for pointing weights out to me)..felt good. Will try going to a heavier routine soon, need to take inventory of what we have.

Walked three miles for 1 hour. Took it easy today because my right knee was bothering me. I think it just needs some extra stretching

zedneser Thu, Oct-07-04 20:04

zedneser Fri, Oct-08-04 20:04
