Racheal Ray and L ow Carb
30 min meals today featured a low carb meal. It looked great. They had bacon wrapped shrimp and scallops and a chicken chinese stirfry that was made into a lettuce wrap.
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/sho...7_33412,00.html It looks like she had another episode that featured bunless burgers. http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/sho...7_30610,00.html Low carb and loving it is also doing chinese today. Now I'm craving chinese, but don't have all the ingredients, poo :) |
I really like that show...

Yes I saw this episode. She used portabella mushrooms (HUGE ONES!) and used the Caps as the burger buns... Looked really good. However I have no idea where I would buy mushroom big enough to double as a hamburger bun. |
OH! i saw that today! YUm!!!! I love that show as well. Happy to see some other shows other then low carb and lovin it are catchen on.

oh, that's a good idea!! I may have to try that some time. I would have never thought of using portabella mushrooms for burger buns! |
i didn't even know there was a show called Low Carb and Lovin It.
is it national? food network? (guess i'll check out their website.) |
You've probably already found it, but yes, on the Food Network. He has some good ideas, although he's a little heavy on the soy flour for me.

Rachel Rae is so cute! We love watching her show. If you've noticed, it appears she has definately started putting on a few pounds, so maybe that is why she is doing some low carb stuff :) What a job!!!

Rachael does quite a few low carb 30 minute meals. Sarah Moulton also did a low carb program yesterday. The one show that is lowfat and low calorie actually had a good lasagna recipe that was low carb and meatless. Instead of lasagna noodles he used strips of zuchini. He never mentioned the low carb part but anyone on low carb would know that they could eat that lasagna. He replaced the meat with slice portobello mushrooms.

Cute yes, but have you ever watched $40 a day? She has got to be hands down the WORST tipper I have ever seen. |

Your local supermarket should carry portabello mushroom caps, and they should be about the size of a regular burger bun or bigger. I know my Super Wal-Mart does. The caps also make great individual pizza crusts, if you like mushrooms. Just brush with olive oil, bake for a few minutes, then top like a pizza and bake til the cheese melts. |

The local grocery store in Florida (Publix) has portabella on sale this week a big package, buy one/get one free. |
If I had Racheals job I would probably gan weight too. If nothing else from the resteraunt meals. If you notice most professional chefs, especially pastry chefs, are on the healthy side and enjoy food. Some such as our own Karen, have learned to combine the love of food with the love of experimenting in healthy eating :)

I think she'd have to be or else there's no way that she'd be able to keep her budget to less than $40. |

It's a trade off. Yes she's a bad tipper, but look at all the publicity the resteraunt gets. For the wait staff themselves it's a chance to be on national TV. |

I am trying the pizza things right now! Let you know how it goes. I found the mushrooms. Apparently I never noticed them sitting right there next to the little ones! |
