eggs-to count or not to count

The Atkins books and website say .6 per egg. Dana Carpender's carb count book says .5 per egg. No one lists size! If you call the 800 number for Atkins or email them, they say NOT to count carbs at all for eggs. I eat about 4 eggs a day. Thoughts on this? Who here counts their eggs?

I count them as one carb each, just to round the number off. Maybe I shouldn't count them! Oh well, they are a good nutritious food no matter what.

I honestly don't count eggs. Although I thought the carb count was 1 carb per egg. There is a fraction in the white and a fraction in the yolk.

After Induction, I don't think that the difference is important.

I count eggs as 1 carb..it is easier to count it as 1 rather than trying to keep track of .6! And I use large eggs

Initially I didn't count the eggs, but I now use fitday and they have the counts for diifferent sized eggs and so I count them now.
I don't however count coffee (decaff) as most days I never drink it it sits on the desk at work like a decoration but I know others who do count it.

When I first started I didn't know whether to count them either. DANDR puts them in the freebie category with the meats, but I was lost so I counted them as one. Counting them as one if I don't need to is better then not counting if I should be.

I count them as 1 carb.

ok I count them but when I've gone over at night I say
oh 3 of those were eggs, and 4 coffee not really a problem-I am kidding myself out of the program with bad math.

I enter them into fitday and count them as whatever they add up to.

My ex boyfriend who finally started Atkins made himself a 15 egg omlette with half a pound of bacon. I told him he was insane (He is a really big guy and a heavy eater) but when you have that many eggs a day they count.

0.6 is about a large egg. I buy the large, but sometimes get the jumbo if they are out of the ones I get and those are like 1 per egg maybe even a touch more.

count 'em. especially if you're doing induction, it could mean the difference between being over and under 20 carbs a day

blueflyer Mon, Apr-26-04 21:49

I use fitday and I buy extra large eggs at Trader Joes. I count them as 1 carb for each egg.

judyr Mon, Apr-26-04 22:09

I count them. I eat at least 2 eggs a day and that begins to mount up. I use fitday and it counts them as .6

I don't count them and I've been known to eat 6-8 per day. I haven't stalled eating them, in fact I find that when I eat eggs I get more full on 3 than if I were to eat a plate of bacon. It's listed on the unlimited section, so I believe it. The best thing to do is eat as much as you like, then check your ketones later that day. That'll tell you. I love egg salad!

When I put my meals into Fitday they always come up to under 20 carbs, but during the day as I'm eating, I really don't pay attention to the carbs, because I'm only eating fat and protein other than veggies.

Basically I allow myself all the fat and protein I want (within reason) and then have 2-3 cups of veggies with my dinner. So, I'm not really paying attention to the eggs, and I eat a lot of them!
