cute story

With my kids I moderate sweet treats, but I don't eliminate them as I belive that won't teach them how to control eating habits when they run into temptaitons outside the home.

Anyway we must not have cake often. I bought a little singe slice of cake yesterday at the store fo rthe kids to share. After they had dinner I split it for them for dessert. My son kept wanting to know who's birthday it was because the only time he typicaly has cake is at a birthdya party :) We finally decided to agree it was an unbirthdya party like Alice has in wonderland.

And a very happy un-birthday to you! (To you)

What a great idea! Hope that everyone here has a happy un-birthday today -- unless of course it is your real birthday!

Kids say the darnedest things, too. My 4 year old was hankering for a cup of apple juice and I said not today (I let him have juice a couple times a week). Then he said, "But it doesn't have carbs!" If he could read, I would refer him to DANDR.

I think that is great that you moderate the sugar, but dont restrict it. My friend had parents that were very strict about her diet, and now that she is on her own, she pigs out on junk food constantly.

With my parents it wasn't that sugar was restricted, it was just that we couldn't afford to buy sweet treats. This ment when a cake or pie did enter the house you had to scramble to get your share. This ment large pieces and having it for snacks or something. When I got a job and money of my own, buying small sweet treats such as truffles or a cheesecake slice was kind of my endulgance.

I still have really bad spending habits. I am getting over spending too much on LC products and books, now I jsut have to hide my check book from myself for everything else.

I grew up with Sweet-N-low, there were never regular sodas in the house exepct for in the last few years if my dad buys them. We also had a lot of no fat, low fat stuff. Always skim milk. Wheat bread.
