New here but not to low carbing

Hello all!

I have intermittently lurked here in the past. My dh has been a member for a while.

My (recent) weight loss history:

I lost 70# (340# -> 270#) on a :exclm: low fat :exclm: diet in 98-99. I then had two pregnancies (which together only caused 10# net of damage) and nursed two babies.

Between babies, I did Atkins for ~ 2 mos and lost the 25# I had gained after the 1st baby while breast feeding (b/c nursing makes you very hungry).

Starting January 2003 I weighed 296# and started Atkin's again. I was down to a low of 255# last Summer, but unfortunately slipped off the pace, and then deliberately carbed through the holidays and got back up to 286#.

So I restarted on induction January 2nd of this year (i.e. 2 days ago), and have lost 2# so far.

I'm disappointed in myself for having gained back 30+ # but happy that there is still a net loss for the year. Also happy that I haven't ever slipped back over 300# (other than while pregnant) since I got below it the 1st time.

What I intend to do differently this year is exercise. Dh and I got an exercise bike for each other for Christmas (well we haven't got it yet, probably later this week), and I hope to start getting in regular exercise. I've never in my life been a regular exerciser, so I hope I will follow through with this.

While my lowfat diet was successful, I found it very, very hard and I know I can't do it longterm. I know I can do Atkin's.

I would like to get down to 200#, which I haven't seen since on the way up (a long time ago). My short term goal is to get back to 255, so all my new clothes from last Summer will fit me again.

I hope to get and give support and ideas from this group. I'm always looking for low carb recipes too!

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the TDC! How nice that you are doing this with your husband -- I would think that would make it easier. And congratulations on not gaining weight with the two pregnancies and staying below 300 -- both of my pregnancies really did me in weight-wise!

Welcome to the group. I can relate, I regained a lot through the holidays, and I restarted on January 2nd. Like you, I could never get myself to exercise either, but have recently gotten inot the walking workout routine on video that you do inside. That seems to be fun for me. I am looking at an exercise bike that has the seat withthe back support, told my hubby thats what I want for my birthday in March. I think it will make a big difference this time around. So, good to have you with is, looking forward to chatting with you. See you around the forum soon!

Welcome smswife! I think I remember your husband being a forum member...

You're right, you CAN do this program. It's far more fulfilling than a low cal diet.

Good luck to you!

Welcome smswife! I have found Atkins so much easier than any low fat "diet" and have come around to believe that this must be a lifestyle change for the long term, rather than short term "diet." I truly believe now that is the key to success. Good luck to you!
