Olive Oil, Yay or Nay?

Hey all,

Doing some more reading in book and on the Atkins site and I am under the impression it is ok to use Olive Oil to cook in. The wording on the site was a little funny to me so again I just wanted to double check. So please let me know, Yay or Nay.

Thanks for putting up with my noob questions everyone,
Whiteice

PS. Im on Day 4 of induction if that matters.

Yay...
Rules of Induction #2:
"Eat liberally of combinations of fat and protein in the form of poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs and red meat, as well as pure, natural fat in the form of butter, mayonnaise, olive oil, safflower, sunflower and other vegetable oils (preferably expeller-pressed or cold-pressed)."

Hi Whiteice

Olive oil is a great fat to use for cooking and as a dressing. It is a monounsaturated fat which is 'classed' as more healthy than saturated fats because amongst other things it is liquid, rather than solid at room temperature.

So use it as your fat of preference.

YAY.
Look at the mediterranean diet and you'll understand the Yay's.

This link is an excellent article on fat. It is quite long but explains the importance of fat to our good health.

Yay on the olive oil. In fact it should be a :yay: yay! Good for you, tastes good, and is is an all around good thing!

Olive oil is the only oil I use for cooking for not only LC reasons but for every other reason (heart, cholestral, etc.) I read about. Plus I like the taste.

I agree. The only time that I cook in anything other than olive oil or butter is when I fry food. I use canola oil for that because olive oil is just too expensive to use 3 or 4 cups of it frying chicken.

I agree that olive oil is healthy and good to use for cooking, but I disagree that it is healthier than saturated fats. Coconut, palm, butter or even lard are better for you. I will not use canola, saflower, or most other vegetable oils. Peanut oil, which is high in saturated fat, is ok for ocasional use in cooking. That saturated fats are bad for you is a myth and has no scientific basis.
