coq10 supplements, ala PPL
Good Morning, folks-
I 've been transitioning from Atkins to Protein power, and as part of that transition, I'm reading the books. I got to the part in Protein Power Lifeplan where they talk about the dangers of statin drugs: "We strongly recommend that anyone who has previously taken or current takes statin drugs for lowering cholesterol should immediately begin taking coQ10. Don't even wait until tomorrow- go get some today." I take Lipitor, a statin drug. I ran out to the store and bought some- but yikes! The 300mg oil-suspended gelcaps (their recommendation, PPL p106) cost me $35 USD for 30 capsules. Anybody out there also taking coenzyme Q10? If so, have you found a supplier that can beat these prices? (I bought mine at the local grocery store.) Thanks for any info, Mark |
Hi Mark,
I take CoQ10 but live in Canada so where I can buy it is different from where you can buy it. Have you tried searching the internet for better prices? http://www.google.com/search?source...lient&q=co+q+10+ Many mail order places are cheaper than retail outlets. Karen |
Hi Mark. You might want to post your question on another forum as well-www.eatprotein.com. That's the forum on the Protein Power website. They've given some good advice to us PP pals too.Hope that helps!

The eatprotein.com website is a good start. Try drugstore.com or vitaminshoppe.com. There are others, but I can't think of them at the moment. I've found that health food stores tend to be the most expensive.
OOOOOOOOO! I just remembered. Go to puritanspride.com. They have the very best prices around. They also have frequent buy-one-get-one-free or half-off sales. I don't have a catalog around, but their prices are the best around. One word of warning, though. Please don't self-medicate with something like this. Don't stop taking your statin drug without doctor's supervision. Go see your doctor and explain what you want to do. Get checked regularly. A LC lifestyle combined with supplements like CoQ10 can have pretty dramatic results. You really need medical supervision, which is stressed in the Protein Power books. Good luck! |
Karen, Ewinpa, Bawdy-
Thanks- the prices online are about 70% of what I paid locally. Thanks also for the admonishment about self-medication. I assure you that I have no intention of discontinuing my perscribed meds without my doctor's consent. She's the one that started me down the low carb road, and has modified my blood pressure meds as of gone along to deal with my much lower blood pressure. Thanks again, Mark |
