People's reactions to Atkins!

Hi. I don't tell anyone that I am on Atkins. Everyone still thinks I'm on BFL. LOL My mother is on BFL. I told her about it about 6 months ago and she has been on it and doing okay. I mentioned to her prior to myself starting Atkins that I was embarking on a new way of eating and I wanted to give it two weeks and if all went well re weight loss, my diabetes etc, I would tell her about it. She hounded me for days to tell her. So I did and guess how she reacted??? She was SPEECHLESS and then really didn't know what to say! LOL I told her all about it and all the positives and she was sooooo quiet. I really thought my own mother would have been happy for me. Well I haven't told her how I am going and probably won't for a few more weeks. I am losing, feel more energy than I had on BFL, my diabetes is great. I test my blood sugar 3x daily and it is between 5 and 6 on my glucose metre whereas on BFL it was between 7 and 12 so there is evidence there that eating high fat and low carbs is better for me than high carbs, low fat! Has anyone else told family or friends what they are doing? And if so, what types of reactions did you get?

My Dad didn't say anything about my early weight loss, but I think my aunt ratted us out, because he confidentially told me he "didn't believe in Atkins." So I sent him some articles from the Internet, most notably "What if it's all been a big fat lie?" and he did a 180!
Just quizzed me about how many vegetables I've been eating, and said that was good.
I spent a week with my inlaws who kept asking me "What kind of restaurant can we take you to?" I kept saying "Any of them."
By the end of the visit we were discussing it quite often.
So I've been fortunate. Initial resistance has turned into support. And I look good and feel good. That's what's important to them.

I've been really lucky because our whole family supports this lifestyle. One of my friends doesn't know yet, and I'm waiting until she really notices I've lost weight before saying a word. I haven't seen her for a couple of weeks, so we'll see.

One day my MIL called and asked me if I remembered a certain person. I said, 'Yeah.' She said, 'Well, you wouldn't believe her! She's been low-carbing and has lost about 100 pounds!' I said, 'And let me guess. She told you she feels like an entirely new person, has tons more energy and just feels great, right?' MIL said, 'That's right!' My MIL is one of those fortunate people, though. She eats cookies, breads, etc., etc. and really doesn't gain weight!

Most of my family lives out of state and I haven't seen them since I started losing weight. I've told them that I have and they are happy about that. My husband is doing sort of a modified Atkins with me because I am only cooking low carb now and he eats what I cook. He has lost a few pounds and his blood sugar is now in the normal range where before it was constantly over 200. :) I look forward to the day when family sees how much I have lost. :)
