lactose intolerant - need help with substitutes

Just started yesterday - today added exercise (only 10 Min) - in addition to having to loose weight I am lactose intolerant - cream actually makes me very ill. Are there alternatives to cream - many of the recipes on site in :Puke: clude cream!

Any help would be appreciated

There's not a straight across the board substitute for cream. Depending on the recipe, soy milk or silken tofu can be a good stand in for stuff that is baked. Nut butters are good for making creamy dressings and the like but can't be heated without separating. I'm thinking that you are probably familiar with cooking and eating this way since you're lactose intolerant.

The best approach would be to start with recipes that are specifically for soy or nut products and then tailor them for LC.

Thinned out mayonnaise can be used for cream in savory dishes - even some sweet ones - and it can be heated to make a sauce.

One of our members, Ladybelle has a dairy intolerance. There may be some helpful information in her Journal.

All this said, you don't need to eat dairy to low carb. It's a treat but not an absolute. :)
