FYI: link to info on Basal Metabolism

Good link to learn about Basal Metabolism...I am still searching for addt'l info...was curious because I started fitday.com and it opened my eyes to it. I heard about before but never really understood it.

Anyway...... http://www.urplace.com/LifeTools/BMR.aspx

Another thing, I did the figuring and it says my basal metabolism is about 1871 and when I multiply with 1.4....I should be taking in about 2600 calories for normal functioning...WOW.......

Confused!*# Doesn't that seem like a lot!

Any input?

It works out about right for me. It has me needing around 2100 calories for maintenance. Yesterday I put my daily diet into Fitday and it came out at around 2100! And I am maintaining at the moment! So - I'll try cutting the calories back a bit and see if that starts me off losing again.

man...is this accurate at all???
my calories would be to high if i follow this one...

It stated my basal was about 1405, which is just slightly lower then fitday gives. Fitday gives me 1460 *shrug* I try to get around that. I know if I eat below 1200 I stop losing weight.

A little better understanding of basal metabolism...and once you get your #'s do realize that on this diet your %'s of protein/fat/carbs will be different, but this might help to better understand of the amount of calories you should be getting for consistant weight loss...I am trying this right now...my basal is around 1800 so if i deduct 500 cal. then I should shoot for 1300 calories a day... I hope this works... I will keep track of my progress to see if this has any substance.

However if you have a lower basal rate, do not go lower than 1200 calories ever!

Basal is the amount of calories your body needs to function. Dropping below basal won't help you to lose weight, in fact it can make you stall as your body hangs on to what energy stores (fat) it has.

Unless you are eating way to many, or way to few calories. You probably don't even need to watch calories until you get really close to goal. Some people never have to watch cals, just carbs.

Hi Ladybelle,

I understand what your saying and thats what I thought about Basal Metab. too. But I am just conducting a little study on myself is all, because I was eating the required and nothing was happening....and if you go to the last link that I posted, it does tell you to lose you must eat under basal caloric rates.... so I am giving it a shot.

For instance today, I ate around 1300-1400 calories, took in plenty of protein and fat, no hunger and did actually eat quite a bit....we will see what happens.. I will average it out every wk and post my results.

Thanks for the concern,

Tashi

Tashi...

I started watching my cals as well...my BM is 1840, my TDEE is around 2560, so I try to shoot for around 1900.

When I first started "The Experiment", as I called it, it got the scales moving again, and they're still moving...but that's ME. YMMV, you know.

I agree with Ladybelle...not wise to go too low. Play with...tweak it...see what happens.

Sherry
