Previous USDA Dietary Guidelines...

I noiticed the USDA has a section for historic Diwetary Guidelines on its website. I looked and apparently someone can't scan very well, because all of the Dietary Guidelines Pre-1943 are illegible [makes you wonder what they said.] But, interestingly enough the 1940s Guidlines:

Its funny that 60 years ago they were recomending lots of whole dairy and butter...But, now they claim Whole Dairy and Butter are bad for you and should be avoided. I imagine in the next 60 years they'll finally come around and realize Grain is bad for you, and we'll see another complete reversal of their Guidelines.

I love the eat eggs once a day, and eat veggies other then potatos :)

But everyone back then was dying of heart attacks from all the fat!! (we won't factor in the smoking, genetics, the number of heart attacks today among healthy young adults, and the old codgers that are still around and following those guidlines....)

Amazing, isn't it?

We've improved the quality of the air we breathe, we've got thousands of people to stop smoking, we've increased medical care to more people, we've got all kinds of drugs to treat illness that people never heard of 20 years ogo......so now we're killing ourselves with our food guidelines!

Seems we did everything right....except the dietary guidelines!

Back then, people actually relied on FOOD for their NUTRITION! Shocking!

Seriously, notice the serving of citrus or tomato daily. They didn't have vitamin C added to processed foods like we do now. I think they stressed milk and eggs, because they are a good source of a variety of vitamins.

That's really interesting, thanks for posting it!
