Help needed with OWL

Don't know what if anything I should do about this. Since attempting to up my carbs to 30g/day my calories have jumped up there. In an attempt to keep my ratios good I've found that my calories get higher because I'm trying to get my protein up each day. I weight train so the protein is important to me.

Maybe I should lower my fat % since I'm upping my carbs? I have been averaging between 69-72% fat each week. It's all sort of scary because I've been losing at about 1lb/week since induction, which is fine, but I don't want to slow it down or heaven forbid stop losing. My calories have been around the high 1600's until this week (upping carbs from 25 to 30g) they are much closer to 2000 and if I have a protein drink tonight to get my protein up I'll be over my desired calories (1700). Suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Definetly lower fat as you raise carbs. High fat + High carbs = fat retention. The 70% of calories from fat is for induction.

As you move through OWL you should keep your calories at a constant and your protien at a constant. You lower the fat as you raise your carbs. Since 1g of carb is 4 calories while 1g of fat is 9 calories, you don't end up cutting the fat as much as you might think.

Atkins states that the Zone's percentage of 40% carbs, 30% fat and 30% protien is close to Atkins maintanance. Of course this is different for everyone as your personal CCL will be different.

My calories have shot up lately, but that's mostly because I've been working on upping my protien. Today I had 30g of carbs and 1361 calories (I have been getting around 1400-1600 cals and am trying to cut back). My percentages ended up being 58% fat, 9% carbs, and 33% protien. My protien is high for weight lifting. You may want to have higher fat and slightly lower protien percentage.

OK Ladybelle,
Thanks so much for your input. I don't have the book handy right now and after logging onto fitday and seeing my calories were going to be up again today I kinda panicked. I love the way you always have to tweak this WOE so that it becomes more personal as you go along. I think tonight I'll forgo the protein and work on the percentages tomorrow.

Again thanks!
Lori
