Beef Jerky!?!?
Hi All! Another question! Hope ya dont mind...
Beef Jerky. Here in PA, there are great farmers markets to go and buy it fresh and home made. Question is that when I ask for Nutritional info they really have no idea or cant talk (due to too much customers). Is all beef jerky ok for this WOE and even Induction? Thanks! :wiggle: Kristie |
Most beef jerkey is not ok! Almost all beef jerkey contains sugar, it sucks! Just ask them what the ingrediants are :)

I would think that it is fine unless it is flavored.. you do need to watch out cuz there is alot of sodium... which will make you retain water..
But as long as it is not Teriyaki or BBQ... it should be fine.. But probably with moderation  |
If you guys have a food dehydrator, you can make awesome teriyaki jerky with just the Atkins teriyaki sauce and a sliced up roast. Makes a ton and it tastes great! Just made a big batch of it the other day.

Beef jerky is almost always made with sugar as a marinade. My friend made jerky w/o sugar...it was OK... I would ask for the ingredients.

Kristie, if you're talking about Amish jerky (I live in PA, too), then I'd suspect there's TONS of sugar and preservatives in it and I'd personally avoid it.
Whole Foods carries jerky (made from turkey) that's sugar-free and quite low in carbs, with no preservatives. That's probably a safer bet. |
I make my own jerky and its yummy and it has no sugar at all and no soy sauce either.

most store bought jerky is full of nitrates to preserve it too

Beef Jerky
Alas,
Commercially prepared beef jerky has sugar or some other type of carbohydrate. I used to eat quite a bit of it when I was on the WW WOE. However, I checked and checked the packaging. Since jery has no fiber..everyone of those carbohydrates count...so good bye to what would have been a perfect protein (discounting the salt of course). Slim Cat  |
