Ideas to add protein? And ideas to add carbs?
 
Im having a hard time getting my carbs up there. I just love my meat and eggs! My protein has been slacking lately too, unless I eat chicken. Any ideas to get the numbers up? Thanks!!

Increasing your carbs is pretty easy - I noticed you're already having half an apple or yogurt here and there, those are really good ideas. :idea: You could try other moderate carb fruit and veggies, too, like squash, sweet pototes, melons, peaches or apricots. I like apricots because they're really small. ;)

For protein, how about picking up a canister of protein shake mix? It's cheap and almost effortless to prepare. ;) Tuna is my other favorite protein-booster. Again, cheap and all you have to do is open the can. Eggs, as well - I almost always add a scrambled egg when I make stir-fry. You could also prepare and freeze a bunch of burgers from whatever kind of ground meat you'd like, and whenever you want one, just whip it out and cook it. :thup:

Hey thanks! I saved all your ideas in my computer. Ive been thinking a protein shake would be good after I roller blade in the morning. Im kind of lost as to what protein shake to get though. I have Keto Shakes in the pantry that have just been sitting there since I started upping carbs. Why have a Peaches N Creme shake when I can have a regular peach! :)

I'd love to know this, too. I've lived my life for such a long time doing the low fat thing--and I really prefer it, taste-wise (probably not alone here?) There are days when I have a real problem making myself eat the meat, eggs, etc., and I don't get enough. I'm just not sure about the right shake to buy. I looked at GNC the other day, but there seemed to be lots of sugars and carbs in everything I saw. Any suggestions for me?

For shakes, I like this kind: http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html I like the chocolate mint best. Pro Complex vanilla is good too, but costs more.

If you want a flavorless one, Zone Perfect has a protien shake that is 7g of protien and nothing else. I really like the Ultra Pure Protien shakes that come in a can for ready made ones. Designer whey is a good one that can be used in alot of cooking. You can also get powdered egg whites to mix into things such as shakes or cookig for added protien.

Stay away from Super Red and Super Blue Soy protiens though. They are great in that they have a lot of protien with little fat or carbs, but the taste is nasty.

Regular food wise. Be sure to have protien at each meal to control insulin spikes. Spreading it out like this also helps you get in enough. Get frozen precooke,d tail off shrimp to add to salads for a kick of protien. Peanut butter, cottage cheese, broccoli, tofu, KETO cereals, and other nut butters are all great non meat protien sorces. Red meats, chicken, fish and other meats of course are good sources of protien. Just be careful eating the large preditor fish like tuna too much. Nuts are a good protien source. Throw them on a salad or into a stir fry for a kick of protien and fats. You can also get black soy beans in the can for mexican dishes, they are LC and high protien, as well as edemama which is green soybeans in podo r you can get them precooked for snacking.

When I have days with a low carb count. I love to suck on frozen raspberries..it is sweet like having a bit of a sour candy drop. Also high in antoxidents..
For protien I usally have a poached turkey breast in the frig to nibble on (love it with garlick salt or a bit of mayo:

A great way to increase your carbs and your protein in one swoop is with cottage cheese. Most cottage cheese will have three to five grams of carbs per 1/2 cup serving, along with about 15 grams of protein and about 10% of the RDA for calcium.
