How many fat grams a day?

I am not new to low carb I lost 70lbs 2 years ago and put it all back on last year...
I was wondering how many fat grams a day people here are trying to eat. This time on low carb I have been using fitday.com to keep track of my carbs, calories, and fat. It seems I am eating 70 to 105 grams a day of fat. This somehow seems high to me or is it? I have 120lbs to lose this time and I want to loose it all not just 70.

hey ian. im at around 93 fat grams a day..about 65%. im in OWL and am a little worried about how much fat i should be eating as well. i know that if you figure out your lean body mass, you should eat enough protein to support that (and then some?).....and then you add in the amount of carbs your allowed...and the rest is fat. least thats what i was told? it still seems like im eating way too much fat though. :) ill check back on this thread maybe ill learn something new.

Ian, the number of grams is not going to be the same for everyone. If I eat more calories than you then I'll have more fat grams than you do just because of the amount of food I eat. What you should focus on are the percentages.

Aim for 65-70% of your calories from fat. 100g for you is kinda low, BTW. 100g x 9 calories a gram is 900 calories. If 70% of your calories is 900 calories that doesn't leave much for protein and carbs. In other words, you're eating too little :)

Atkins recommends the following ratios / percentages during induction:

65-70% fat
25-30% protein
the rest will be carbs.

These percentages will change as you add in more carbs and decrease your fat in Maintenance.

I still have a hard time believing we can eat this much fat, and until I started doing fitday I really didn't realize my percentages. It works, and fats are delicious, I'm finding.

I have come to really love useing fitday. It helps me keep focused and on track and not stray. Just knowing I have to type it in and see the carbs/cals stops me in my tracks.

Hey Nat...I think Im in trouble...my fat has been round 65%...it should be less cuz Im in OWL shouldnt it? I guess that means more protein! Blah! Its getting hard to balance things out.

Sorry, not Nat here. .. no, I think it's more carbs, less fat. protein is about the same, maybe even less.

Fat is your friend! When I keep my fat up around 70%, I lose! I was at a stall for awhile and a few wonderful board members told me to eat and up my fat. Down 4 pounds the next week! After a seven week stall. I try to add fats like olive oil when I cook, or dipping my meats in salad dressing or mayo.

I'm dropping weight pretty fast with no problem at all and I keep my fat around 105-120. When it was under that I was not losing, I was even gaining. Don't be afraid of fat! I aim for at least 70% fat a day.
