Tanita scale and accuracy of bodyfat%?

Just wondering how many (if any) of you own and use a Tanita scale and if so, how do you think the bodyfat% is as far as accuracy?

Thank you!

Hi Carol:

There are tons of posts about tanita scales if you do a search. For some reason, the search function is down for me at the moment.

I have one and although it's probably not accurate for body fat, it is generally consistent enough to give you a guideline. You just have to make sure you follow the rules for measuring body fat. I have them posted somewhere and will link that post for you when the search function returns.

I find that they are accurate for bf% HOWEVER, you MUST read the instructions when you buy the thing. You cannot have had any alcohol within, I think, 24 hours. It also says you're not to have worked out in x amount of time...etc. etc.

I have a Taylor one and it just isn't as accurate as my friend's Tanita. One day I woke up and it weighed me at 113lbs! I said, "wow, so that's what 113 looks like on my scale! - guess it CAN actually go down, at least! Thought it had been stuck ;)" It was too low to even fool me for HALF a second. I have hated that damn thing ever since.

Yes, hydration is a huge issue for body fat scales. My Tanita says the best time to measure BF is early evening, after going to the bathroom. It will also mess up during your ovulation cycle for the same reason.
