breastfeeding and atkins or charles clark

Do any of you know if it is safe to breastfeed while low carbing???

Was a active member of atkins for a awful long time but failed miserably whilst pregnant last year. DDis now 17 weeks old and I have about a stone to shift, but do not want to reduce my milk supply. Just wanted to know if any of you have some advise, or should I wait till I have finished feeding, goodness knows when that will be.

Hi Kim

Congratulations on the birth of your baby daughter. I am going to move your post to a more relevant site where more people can comment. I've no idea myself having not been in that situation. Good to see you too.

Hi Kim,

Let me also congratulate you on the birth of your daughter!

If you reread your Atkins book, you'll see that he very definitely says not to do any of the weight loss phases while pregnant or breastfeeding. So, yes, you'll need to wait until bubby has been weaned to begin the weight loss.

I would definitely try to eat low carb though. You may well find you are losing anyway, in which case you will need to increase your "good" carbs sufficiently so that you just maintain.

All the best to you and your little one.
