Those body fat calculators based on measurements are notoriously inconsistent. Depending on which ones I use-I get anything from 27%-38%. I even had my bf tested with one of those electrical machines and that put me at 20% which I knew was way low.

I just picked one online and use it to track my downward progress.

Hi Lynda

Try using the one on the BBC website, under health. I use the info from my heart monitor which calculate it as well. The thing to do is to choose one of the calculations and stick to it, then you will see the variation. A bit like weighing on the same set of scales. As you are fairly tall I would guess that the lower level is probably the most realistic.

50 ways to lose your .. weight

3 words - Skin Fold Caliper. It will require going out and buying one OR having someone that has one do the test for you. I prefer the second option as they've already done it before. This little gadget looks like a little plastic Ice Tong. They pinch your tummy, arm and legs. Then calculate your body fat that way. It's relatively accurate and more reliable than online "fill in the blank" calculators.

I think it's easier to track total weight and weigh loss (in lbs and inches) vs how much body fat you have. All you need is a scale and a tape measure for that.

Good luck!
