Newbie checking in

Hi all :)

My name is Dee, I'm new to this site and was told to join the TDC. Thanks to the 2 people who replied to my first posting ;)

I am 31 and I weigh 335lbs. I need to get rid of 195lbs to reach my goal weight of 140lbs.

I was up for the gastric surgery and messed it up and got cancelled because I didn't lose the addtional 30lbs my surgeon required me to lose. So here I am now with almost 40pounds to lose. I've been yoyo --ing for a while. My highest weight was 358. I need all kinds of advice and encouragement. I want to make a commimment and I will but I'm scared. Scared of letting myself down for the upteenth time. I have a problem with completing goals. I shoudn't say that, but it's true. I need to stick to my goals. So here I am still fat and struggling to lose weight. But I am determined to do this. One good thing I can say about myself is that I have fallen several times but I keep getting back up. And I will not stop trying to save my own life. This fat issue has almost killed me. I have pseudo-tumor-cerebia from being over weight. I'm alright now but I have a shunt in my brain and I lost the vision in my left eye because of it. All of this and I still haven't lost the weight, but I will. My biggest dream is to ride a roller coaster with my kids. As of right now I can't fit in the seats...I've been through that humiliation. I would also like to run again. I remeber as a teenager I would sprint up the steps 3 or 4 at a time. I also love to dance but can't seem to break it down like I could 200 pounds ago LOL My knees threaten to go out on me LOL But through it all I'm still here and I'm glad to find a community who understands where I'm coming from. Hey are there any TDCers here from Sacramento California? Stay in touch :D

Hi there, welcome to the forum! You will find the most encouraging and supportive people on here. Conratulations on going low-carb. I am very glad that you haven't had the gastric bypass done yet, hopefully once you lose your 40 lbs you will decide to keep going low-carb and forget about the surgery ?
I'm sure you don't want to get lecture, so I won't, but I think gastric bypass should be done only as a VERY LAST resort.

Either way, we here for you.

You've fought more than half the battle already! The desire and determination to get started I think is the hardest part.

Good luck & come here often for help & support during those critical first weeks.

Hi Dee,
You sure have come to the right place. What a great decision not to give up on yourself and make that commitment. You can do this Dee and we will be here for you through it all. I just can't get over how much better I feel and how much control I have when I eat this way. I'm sure that you will feel this way too. We are all so much better for this WOE and the changes that it has made in our lives. Keep in touch because we need you too.

Sounds familiar . . .

Hi Dee!

Where to start - I started at my high last year of 353.5 to seriously try to lose the weight. I did lose some (using other methods). I started LC on Feb 24 03 at 322.5. As of this morning, my weight was at 287. You can lose the weight w/o surgery. Hang in there! This is an awesome WOL.

I also have PTC. It showed up after my first pregnancy (which ended in a stillbirth). I had to have my fluid drained only the one time. I do, however, still have episodes where I feel it starting to flare up. I hear the whooshing in my ears and immediately go into protective mode - giving myself rest (with my head up) and try to eat consistently and drink WATER ONLY. I seem to be particularly sensitive to VitA.

I hope that you find LC helps you feel much better. You're off to a great start b/c you have the right attitude. Don't be afraid to ask every question that comes to mind. There are a lot of great (successful) LOSERS here! Welcome!

Shari

this place and WOL will save your life. I can't say enough wonderful things about low carb. Wait until it kicks in. . .you will realise it has not been you all these years. . .it's the carbs. They drive one to eat. But with low carb you need to remember to eat! Stick with it. All that will power that we all had that let us eat carrots and celery for weeks at a time will serve us well. . .oh man must I choke down another piece of bacon?! Way better than carrots! AND I can lose weight too? Pinch me I still think I am dreaming! I haven't been this weight in over 10 yrs! Can't wait to see how excited you become as you see it melt off! You will do this. This goal is already in your hands. Just hold on! redawn:)

Hi, Dee, I am an ex-Porterville, California, girl. Does that count?

Wow, Dee, you have been through a lot. I believe you will find this WOL-WOE virtually painless. I wish you luck in your goals.

Something I have read about the gastric bypass surgery is that after the surgery is done, the person ends up eating low carb anyway after the surgery. It's just something to think about and check into.

I have trouble meeting goals too, but I am here at TDC doing my best to make it this time. We can do this!

Best to you!
