to switch or not to switch?? atkins vs. CAD

hey all you CADers! I have been doing atkins for about 6 weeks. I lost my first two, and have gained back the weight since then, following induction levels and watching everything. I only lost about 4 lbs on induction. So i got down to 137 from 140-141. but now i am up to 140 again. and no loss since then, in inches or anything. So obviously I am in a stall. But I have been researching other low carb diets, CAD & Protein power. And I took the test in CAD and have mild carb addiction. So I am wondering if anyone has switched and still managed to lose weight. I have no problem eating low carb twice a day and it would be awesome to be able to have a reward meal and still lose weight. my boyfriend is also low carb with me, and he has been having dreams about cookies and stuff. i know he is a carb addict.

so i am just curious to hear other peoples experiences with either woe and any suggestions you might have.

thanks!
heather :)

CAD broke my Atkins stall. Just one thing.. I dont know your height but 140-137 isnt a very high weight. You might be having trouble losing because your body likes itself at that weight. You will probably have to be pretty patient on whatever diet you try to break that 137 barrier.

I love CAD its definately an easier "Maintanence" Diet then Atkins for me.

Good luck whichever diet you try

A lot of CADers lost little or nothing on Atkins and then went on to lose on CAD. Give CAD a try for a couple of weeks. You must take note though, CAD is not Atkins with a RM!! There are foods on Atkins that you cannot have at CAD CMs such as AS, diet sodas, cream cheese, red peppers. There is a cheat sheet here. If the food is not on the list, don't eat it except at RM.

Good Luck.

Zuliekaa, on your cheat sheet it shows cream cheese. Can you not have it now for CM? Thanks :)

wow, i have been reading a post that was started months ago, but had a momentum, of over 26 pages! all about the questions i was asking! i guess next time i will check previous posts for a few months before i ask another redundant question!! haha. so today is day one. we are having our RM of japanese food! i missed sushi soooooooooooooo much on atkins. my boyfriend is from hawaii and cannot stop talking about rice! both of us scored in the mild carb addict range in the book, he was 25 and i was 29. then i took the quiz on the cad site and i scored 8 out of 10! so maybe i am somewhere in the middle.

i just really hope this gets me off of my plateau! and it seems much easier to stick with thats for sure! and i dont have to get rid of all the food in my cupboards!

Zuleikaa- since you are the CAD/CALP goddess of knowledge i wanted to ask you a question , which might seem dumb, but i just want to make sure that i am getting it right.

for the CM, you can eat veggies, up to two cups cooked, any combination of those allowed right?? and those carbs dont get counted??? or if the veggie, like asparagus, which is higher in carbs than say lettuce, if i ate two cups, which is a lot of asparagus, it is still perfectly safe for the CM?? i just dont want to go overboard with veggies, i love them! and is the carb count net carbs or all carbs??

asparagus has 7.7 carbs and 3.6 fiber for 6 oz. ( i do everything by weight because i dont know what 1 cup of asparagus really looks like). so does that mean i can eat it because it is basically 4 carbs? i am so confused!!!

please let me know how you find it to work. i just dont want to be eating the wrong amounts thinking i am doing it all fine. by atkins, i could eat that much asparagus and be just fine, carb wise.

thanks!!!!

Cream cheese is a YMMV item. It seems to stall some CADers, especially in mock danish and lc pancakes. Cream cheese in celery seems to be OK. A lot of CADers have found that they have to keep their CMs very restricted to simple proteins, salads, veggies and dressings. Some recipes, especially with a lot of cheese and cream cheese seem to stall a lot of people. It's something each CADer has to find for themselves. A lot of CADers have also had to watch the AS and only have diet sodas with RMs.

As I've said, CAD isn't just Atkins with a RM. Each person needs to find their own tolerance level and listen to his/her body. Some can be more liberal, some have to be very strict. The matter of balance at RM is also very individual. Some balance very strictly, some don't. Some have to balance very strictly, some don't.

It might sound very up in the air but CAD becomes a very individual plan. The only rule everyone must never break is the 60 minute RM rule.

Once you find your own particular balance that suits your own body chemistry, CAD can be a very easy WOL.

Thanks Zuleikaa, I have been sticking to the basics so far, since this is only my second week on CAD. After the 2 weeks is up, I'll give it a try on celery and see if it has any effect. ;)
