HERSHEY'S Sugar Free Chocolate Candy

Has anyone tried the new HERSHEY'S Sugar Free Chocolate Candy? I bought it and tried a piece. I can't tell the differance at all! It tastes awesome!
It uses Lactitol as a sugar substitute.
I tried to search the atkinscenter.com to see if latitol is okay to eat, but got no search results.

Here the Nutrition Facts:
Serving Size (40g – 5 pieces)
Calories: 170
Calories from Fat: 120
Total Fat: 13g
Saturated Fat: 8g
Cholesterol: 10mg
Sodium: 10mg
Carbohydrates: 24g
Dietary Fiber: 2g
Sugars: 0g
Lactitol: 21g
Protein: 1g

It says on the Hershey's website that is is only 1 net carb. It that right?

Hi Tom,

Lactitol is one of the sugar alcohols. They allegedly don't elevate blood sugars and so can be disregarded as a carb.

However, many people find that sugar alcohols stall them. It's one of those YMMV situations. They can also cause nasty tummy upsets. The only way to know whether or not you'll be stalled is to try 'em and see.

You'll find a great article on sugar alcohols, written by Doreen T, in "Low Carb Tips" on the orange bar at the top of your screen.

All the best!

Here is a recent thread where we discussed lactitol and some of it's affects:

Lactitol must be a sugar alcohol that is why you get a net carb count to 1. Sugar alcohols do not effect your blood sugars so they are subtracted.

I do have some in my fridge for those times that I think I want to splurge on "bad" carbs. I eat a couple of those, and that usually takes care of it (after all it is a mind thing), but if you eat too many, it can cause you and the bathroom to become good (or bad) friends. It depends on your body tolerance.

I have to stay away from stuff like that cuz I will eat the whole bag if I am not careful. Too many sweet treats around me tends to stall me if I dont limit myself and with stuff so yummy it is hard to limit myself.

They ARE awesome, especially the peanut butter cups. Unfortunately they did not agree with me at all :-(

The serving size is 5, but maybe just 2 won't affect me - next time I get a craving I'll try just that.
