Why the sudden drop in w/loss after induction???

I'm a little confused........first of all, I'm reading the thread regarding how much weight people lost in induction. Many of you posted a loss of 8-10 lbs (which is an amount I hear alot for the first two weeks). Then, from induction on, the weight loss for many people drops _drastically_. How can you go from losing 4 lbs. a week to 1/2 lb a week just by adding 5-10 carbs a day? It really doesn't make sense to me. I am aware that on induction, a good amount is water weight.........but that still doesn't count for the discrepancy.

I certainly don't want to focus on my scale----and I am not looking for a quick loss plan (so please don't address this post in that way). I am simply trying to understand where this sudden loss of losing :daze: comes from. Anyone?

Hi Louisa,

I'm no scientist but I'll have ago at your question. There are many points which could be raised.
1 A lot of the initial weight loss IS water. Carbs cause the body to hold onto water and the body can hold quite a lot.
2 Weight loss might not slow that much or that dramatically.
3 Once your body has got rid of the water, it starts doing things with all that extra nice protein - like repairing muscle which may have been damaged by previous high carb low protein and fat dieting. And muscle is heavy.
4 With many people an extra 5 grams of carbs makes a huge difference. I can't go above 20 a day even after 2 years or I start to gain. (Most people aren't like me - don't worry!) ;)
5. I don't think it's a 'loss of loss' as the real fat loss settling down to it's own momentum after the initial shocks your body goes through on induction.

I hope the above makes some sort of sense and goes part way to answering your question. No doubt other people will come along to give you a more full answer.

Good luck
Robert

My "unscientific" take is that Induction is such a drastic shock to your system, that when you start to add carbs, your body needs to take a "rest" from that weightloss (even, if at the beginning it's water weight lost). There's no discrepancy between weight lost and carbs added.
