Depo and Atkins
 

Is anyone else on the Depo Shot? I have been for 3 and 1/2 years and know that some of my weight gain come from the shot. I am thinking about giving up the shot for some other form of birth control if I need to... Is anyone out there in the same boat?

Yes I am on the dEpo shot ahve been for about 1 year. I don't think it caused my weight gain because i have always been able to agin just fine on my own if I am not watching what I am eating, or "dieting".

I think most of my weight can be contributed to pregnancy twice.

I am thinking of tubal ligation but I have had 2 children and feel I am done with my faimly.

Just a side note unlike so many others I have been really lucky with really no side effects from depo except lack of periods and that does not bother me...and I was on Depo since before my start on Atkins and lost pretty well

If you're done having children, you may consider an IUD.

I got mine in 1996, and I won't have it removed until 2006. Ten years of worry-free birth control!

Very few women in the U.S. use an IUD, because of the horrible IUDs in the 70's. The new ones are completely different and don't have the problems that the old ones had. Mine didn't even change my periods at all, and I never even know it's there.

Hi, menaz!

I was on Depo for about a year and in the last six months gained 50 pounds! I stopped using it in December of last year and just had my tubes tied a couple of months ago. I started this WOE in the hopes of finding my old body still in here somewhere.

Im on Depo as well, Id like to think that being on Depo has caused a lot of my weight gain, since before I Was on Depo I never had a problem losing weight with exercise and eating well.. sigh.. but, I cant think of any other birth control that provides the excellent benefits..of Depo.. for me, its worry free, fairly resonably priced.. ($60 every 3 months..) I never get my period..(excellent benefit, my periods last at least a week typically when Im not on Depo)... and yeah.. thats it.. Im terrible at taking pills consistently, I always forget, I hate taking them, and I dont want my period.. I looked into the patch, but I dont want to THINK about birth control every week... I would consider an IUD... chelles, can you tell me more about that??? You still get your periods though, right?? I KNOW my Depo has caused some weight gain, and its hard to lose weight when youre on something thats causing it.. like swimming against the current.. ugh.. wow, Im just in a complaining mode.. sorry guys.. :)

I have been on depo for about 3 1/2 years now - the best thing i ever did was get the shot. Luckily i seemed to have no side effects. I did put on about 5kg over the 3 years since i started taking it but i think that was more from my eating habits than anything else. I am happy to say i haven't had any problems losing weight while still taking it so i hope your journey goes as well Menaz :daze:
