Just getting started...

I've officially started Induction today and have lots of questions. I went to the bookstore and got a copy of Atkins for Life. They didn't have any of the others in stock and I needed something to start reading. Good choice???

Also, I know I should be taking a multi-vitamin, but with no iron. I looked at a couple of kinds in Wal-Mart and didn't see any that don't offer iron. Any suggestions on brands?

Is it OK to go under 20g of carbs during Induction? After lunch and according to what I've entered in FitDay, I will only have 7g. That would leave 13g for supper and I just don't see it being realistic and fitting in with what I should be doing. Are there any links or anything where I can find a sample of a daily menu on Induction? :q: Atkins for Life offers menus beginning with 45g of carbs...don't think that particular book is really geared to Induction.

Oh, one more thing (yeah, right)...I've read all I can find on the site here, but I'm still don't feel like I understand ketosis. Can someone spell it out for me like I'm two years old? :daze:

Thanks! I'd love any other advice anyone can offer!

If you are starting induction today, your best book to get is Atkins Diet New Revolution. Awsome book...until then check out this site:
www.atkinscenter.com
it's a wonderful site with all of the information you will need to get you started until you get the book. The rules of induction are stay under 20 grams of carbs. But it's ok to go under that. Just make sure you get your "legal" veggies in!

Good luck and welcome!

The vitamins I use are Centrum Silver. I do switch back and forth between vitamin with and without iron. I look at my totals on Fitday at the end of the day and then decided which vitamin to take. I find that if I'm too low on iron that I get really tired and have low energy. I agree with Goat Lady. Check out the Atkins website. There is a lot of usefull information on there. It explains ketosis pretty well.

I think Atkins for Life deals more with pre-maintenance and maintenance issues rather than Induction, therefore, I would suggest, as Goat Lady suggested, going to the atkinscenter.com website to be able to read up on Induction.

welcom

I like to have the book on hand. It really comes in handy.
I would suggest you trade the book out if you can. They can probably order it for you .
Happy LCing.

Thanks-and first day almost done!

Thanks for all the great advice!

It was the most interesting thing...I was talking with a friend about something that had nothing to do with Atkins or dieting at all. I knew she had lost quite a bit of weight and is still working at it so I asked her if she had any experience with Atkins. She laughed and said that's how she's lost the weight (like 100+ pounds!) and is still losing on it. Turned out, she has the New Diet Revolution so I met her and we traded for the time being. Funny how things work out!

I also (on her advice) picked up the Atkins vitamins and essential oils, so that should take care of that!

I feel pretty good overall after the first day. I felt a little strange (can't quite put my finger on it) for about three hours this afternoon and had a slight headache. All that seems better now after eating supper.

Later,
Darlene
