I am suddenly very disappointed :(

I just joined fitday.com and added up what I ate yesterday...40 carbs? I am so dissappointed. I thought I was doing well, but apparently not! ?:(

Don't worry!

We are all learning. It takes time to understand where all the carbs are. Please don't fret. Just readjust. Now that I know more I deal with people all the time that do not know what are carbs. My sister still does it. She knows I limit my carbs but offers me food that have carbs without realizing it. Please have a happy day and weekend!

Don't worry

Hey...don't worry. I had the same feeling last week. I didn't want to use fitday bc I though it was to much trouble - ....now you have a better idea of what you are eating. My thought was that I would have given up in hind sight if I had not started using fitday bc I was sure I was eating right!!!!! now you are truely on your way!

Did you remember to subtract the fiber?

yvonne326 Thu, Apr-24-03 08:07

Did you subtract the fiber from the 40 or is that 40 after fiber deducted?

Well at least now you know where you need to cut back...that's the good thing about fitday. :)

MsJinx Thu, Apr-24-03 08:56

Yeah, I always wondered how anyone could stay at 20 grams or under without using some sort of counter - especially when you first start out.

Live and learn. Hopefully someone else will start using fitday because of your post.

OH wait, does Fitday NOT subtract the carbs because of fiber?

Kathy54 Thu, Apr-24-03 09:38

I find lately I'm just too busy to use fitday, BUT, I always make time to just jot down everything I eat, using the carb count out of Atkins book. Then I can see as the day goes along, they do add up fast. :daze:
Doing it that way, I can adjust my dinner meal if needed. But when I do fitday, it's useally at the end of the day............. To late

I just use a note book, hope that helps. Kathy

RE: Fitday and fibre, sadly no it does'nt doit for you :(
But in the back of Atkins he does, as does P.P. ;)

katgurl Thu, Apr-24-03 10:32

Oh! fitday doesnt subtract fiber for you? well then i was less then fourty...i had lots of salad greens yesterday.

paradise Thu, Apr-24-03 10:42

So, you could even go back to "April 23" on FitDay and figure out how much dietary fiber was in the foods you consumed, then subtract that number from the 40g you quoted. Yes, a pain, I wish FitDay automatically, as an option, subtracted the fiber for you, they ask you to input it. But, then OTOH, not all plans deduct fiber from carbs.

katgurl Thu, Apr-24-03 10:50

OK, so I had 12 grams of fiber, says fitday. SO instead I had about 28 carbs instead of 40? hmm

40 carbs not so disappointing

This is a little off the subject but your disappointment over 40 carbs made me want to share what I've been doing.

For the last few weeks I’ve been staggering carbs with good results. I’ll do two days at 20, one at 30, one at twenty, two at thirty and one at 40. This averages to just over 27 carbs a day over a 7-day week. And I do deduct fiber.

It seemed to break a short stall I was having – I’m losing a half-inch a week off my waist again (I don’t have a scale) for a total of an inch and a half in three weeks.

It’s also nice to have a day once a week where I can relax a little bit.

Yes, your ECC was 28g for the day. Not bad. The good thing about going through the FitDay exercise is that you can also see what kind of fat percentage makes up your daily intake.

Fitday does show you the fiber in the little summary thing near the top of the page for the date. It just doesn't deduct it from each individual food. HTH :)

Even if you did subtract fiber and you were at what I call 40 "net carbs" per day, that may not be so bad. Induction calls for 20 or less. After that you should add 5 per week until you get to the point where your weight loss stops.
Some people can eat 40 carbs per day and still lose weight.
Some people even claim that after Induction, continuing to eat only 20g causes a stall while increasing to 30g causes more weight loss. Go figure!

I think keeping close tabs on your carb intake while listening to your body is the key. A journal helps me. I forget from one week to the next what my body did.
