Eggs?

Hi all,
Have a question about eggs

I seem to recall someone posted on this thread that they were eating 12 eggs a day?

Now, I love eggs, and I don't worry about colesterol, or calories, but my question is, if I ate 12 eggs in one day, wouldn't that be 12 carbs? As each egg is a carb

And since I'm still on induction, that is not where I want my carbs coming from. Currently I am eating 2 eggs per day.
Please correct me if I'm wrong, because if i can add more eggs per day, I would love it.
TIA

You answered your own question, carbs should come from other sources, like veggies.

12 eggs per day? Yuck, and i love eggs

Eggs do have carb but under 1 per egg. On fitday.com two eggs equal to 1 carb.

I have eaten as much as 4 eggs in one day - - only thing that you should watch out for is your total protein consumption in one day...too much can turn into fat.

12 eggs a day? Who is that Cool Hand Luke?! That is alot of eggs for one day, and I know I'd never have the appetite to eat them all, but if it fits into their plan, more power to them!

12 eggs a day would definitely not work for Atkins induction, but if someone is on maintenance and they have found their ideal carb level is up there (60g carbs a day for example), maybe this would fit in.

hmm.. I'd use common sense on this one. 12 eggs in one day would definately leave me craving something more.. and it really is too high in protein. So.. common sense says follow your own instincts.. what may work for one (and I'm surprised it does) doesn't guarantee you success.

My max (and I haven't yet reached it) is 4 eggs in a day, but not everyday. :daze:

It might have been a mistake and the person meant to say 12 eggs / WEEK ?

Because, 12 eggs a day!! Ouf!! :)

Just for clarification purposes:
1 egg= 0.6g carb
1 egg yolk= 0.3g
1 egg white= 0.3g

I think the most I've ever eaten in a day is five. A three egg omelette and a two egg serving of egg salad isn't so crazy. :)

Thanks everyone for the responses :exclm: I have no intention of eating that many in one day, I was just curious

I think it was a weight lifter that ate that many eggs in one day, but can't recall the screen name

But I do have another question, if anyone happens to read this thread again. yvonne326 said in her post, "only thing that you should watch out for is your total protein consumption in one day...too much can turn into fat" I didn't realize that. I've been keeping my protein intake to about 22-25%, according to fitday.

Does anyone know how many grams of protein we should have in one day?? Don't know if there is an answer to this, as I assume it would relate to whatever else you ate that day, but thought I'd throw the question out there...

TIA

Well... if I remember correctly, during induction your levels should be as follows...

3% carbs
70% fat
27% protein

youramigo Tue, Apr-22-03 15:52

12 eggs that is gross

mom2girls Tue, Apr-22-03 16:55

 I agree...

mrschmelz Tue, Apr-22-03 17:48

I have eaten 8 eggs in a day many times.

I agree it would certainly be monotonous, but 12 eggs would equal 76.5 grams of protein which is still below my minimum daily requirement (78 grams) as determined through the Protein Power calculation. While it's true that excess protein can be converted to glycogen (very slowly), what constitutes "excess" varies from person to person and I think is really more than most people would think and while protein can be converted to glycogen it can only be done in the presence of glucagon which cannot be present if insulin is. If insulin is not present, then fat storage would be at a minimum, if at all.
Having said all that, I still can't imagine eating 12 eggs in one day.

I think too much of anything (except water) can turn into fat.

I have no idea how much protein to eat in a day. I'm sure it depends on the individual, and only time and experience will tell you what is right for your body.

I have read from several sources though, that it is important for people who are going through carb withdrawals to eat extra protein. I guess this would apply mostly to those on Induction and those who had "cheated" or "slipped" recently.

I have found that eating LC curbs my appetite, therefore eating too much protein is a "non-issue." I just watch my carb count for the day, and the rest of my diet takes care of itself.
