Had a creative meal idea today

So I was stuck in the office as the only one, and I have errands to run after work, so a late lunch was my IF choice. (I'm doing only one meal a day, per Dr. Fung's The Obesity Code, so I have a great interest in that one meal :))

I only have time to stick a sign on the door and run over to the deli and back. I called ahead and had them chop up some pepperoni and put a quartered hard-boiled egg on the chicken Caesar salad I ordered.

It worked great! Pepped up all the flavors. I also added hemp oil to their standard dressing, which I keep in the fridge here.

Just wanted to share how, instead of going, "Ack! Another chicken Caesar salad," I was able to shake things up.

nice job! sounds like a great salad.
to switch up salad blahs at home, i became obsessed with "grilled romaine" a couple years ago, after trying a grilled casear at a fancy brunch. I use the technique at least monthly now, and it is great if you have a hard time with raw veggies- my stomach can be really moody.

i am also into using cucumber noodles as a salad base.....makes the whole dish seem very different!

Neat ideas. I've always been a salad renegade, since I used to 'hate' mayo, and I'm still not a big fan of any salad dressing with vinegar. At restaurants, I'm not shy about ordering caesar dressing on a non-caesar salad. At home, it's no holds barred. I'll put three-cheese ranch and bacon bits on bagged cole slaw. Who says cole slaw has to have cole slaw dressing?

Cucumber 'noodles' - hey, that's a cool idea. I think I'd like an Asian-type dressing with that, maybe a la glass noodle salad. Maybe a few carrot matchsticks, thinly-sliced bell peppers, tamari/soy sauce, sesame oil, and a touch of sweetener. I tend to get a little "cucumbered-out" this time of year; that sounds like a good way to use them up.

Back to Werebear's post... it pays to be nice to your local restaurant/deli/butcher/shops that you frequent. If you feel comfortable talking about your diet requirements, they should be happy to help you. Years ago, "my" pub started selling Labatt Sterling (LC beer) by the keg because my ex and I drank a lot of it. At least I like to think that's why they had it on tap. ;)

I noticed my local Co-op supermarket sells packs of cucumber noodles - nice to see a low carb option going "mainstream"!

That's a great idea for a Caesar salad. For those who don't care for anchovies, it's a great substitute. For me, it's pepperoni or anchovies or both.

Thanks, all, I didn't know about the cucumber noodles.

I do love salads in the summer, and my local deli is highly accommodating about special requests. I can keep little cans of anchovies in olive oil in my desk to put over salads -- that's another great idea!

So many food outlets are stingy with the protein; partly for cost reasons, and partly because people act like the lettuce is the only healthy part of the salad. NOOOOOOOOO, people!

Spinach salad is a nice option too, but they never put enough bacon on it for ME :)

So many things are better with pepperoni

Great idea! I too get so bored with the traditional salads. Always looking for options.

Today's salad was roast beef and cheddar with onions and hot pepper mayo as a dressing.
