birth control....women please look!

hi!

i'm going to get a prescription for birth control on friday, and was wondering about your experiences with different meds...any help would be great! i've worked hard to lose this weight, and i don't want to gain it back just cause i want to romp in the sheets! i would rather abstain for the next however long it takes.

thanks!

I take tricyclen - and i've lost fine....

I am on ortho tri cyclin which is one of the most commonly used ones, and I have been losing weight just fine. I started protien power on April 15th and have lost 8 pounds already! When I first started this WOE, I did get my period out of the blue, which really shocked me because I have been on the pill for years and you get used to how it keeps you super regular. Did a search here for "periods" and found out that is pretty common for gals who just start low carbing.

I just love the pill actually, personally my fave birth control.

Also have taken ortho tricyclen and lost faster than when not on it!

MsJinx Wed, Apr-30-03 19:28

I've had the opposite effect. I craved carbs much worse, binged much worse, and was unable to do Induction the first time around.

This was also my experience on the pill:

I quit taking them because what's the point if you're not getting any? I know this isn't everyone's experience but I've worked in a women's sexual physiology lab for some time and it is FAR more common than anyone would like to think. So is women's sexual dysfunction in general. :(

Hate to be the messenger.
Hugs,
Jinx

PS Me and my sex life are much better now, in case you wanted to know ;)

I'm another Ortho Tri-Cyclen user. I've been on it since I started and haven't had any problems. TOM still causes water weight gain and 'pauses,' but other than that it's all groovy.

BTW- Jinx, glad to hear things are better now. ;)

I am on ortho tri cyclene and i have lost weight on the atkins diet fine, i have had no problems with sex drive, in fact since i got on atkins and the pill at the same time i find my sex drive has increased. Maybe im just weird! lol so far on atkins i lost 30 some odd pounds .

The reproductive endocrinolgist I was on took me off the tri-phasics and put me on Yasmin. I feel much better on it and have better cycles than on the 7/7/7.

MsJinx Wed, Apr-30-03 21:16

BTW, I too was on Yasmine. I did have less nausea and other bad side effects when I first started taking it - although I was still sick for 2 or 3 weeks I was able to stay on.

I've been on the pill & recently switched to the shots, depo provera. I've lost weight on both with no real problems. Weight gain is only a possibilty, not a given. If you continue to stick with this WOE, you should be OK. It might slow you down a little, but it won't prevent you from losing. Getting pregnant on the other hand...I think you know where I'm going with this. If you discover the pill is problematic for you, you can always stop taking it & use another method. Might as well give it a try for a couple months & see how it affects you & your body.
God Bless,
Amy-Lynne

birth control

I tried the pill and had negative side effects, mostly emotional. The hormones were going crazy! Then I tried the depo shot and gained an incredible amount of weight in a short time and my sex drive disappeared. Now I have an I.U.D. and it is fantastic! No side effects and I am child-free for 10 years unless I decide to have another. But he's almost 15 so I don't think that's gonna happen.

I'm on Yasmin and immediately lost 10 lbs the first week I started taking it. Must have been mostly water weight. I follow Atkins and continue to lose fine.

RandiS Thu, May-01-03 01:08

I have been on Alleese and have lost 50 pounds in the past five month, so I would say I have had no problem.
