A+ Blood Type
Good Morning!
Has anyone heard that Atkins doesn't work for people with A+ blood type? I was out with friends this weekend, and Atkins came up in conversation. I've really struggled with losing weight, and I am wondering if this has any merit. Thanks! |
Type A typesshould basically stick to fruits and vegetables (high carbs / low fat). They have thicker blood than other blood types, a sensitive immune system, and should not consume dairy products, animal fats and meats. They are at a heightened risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer.
Type B typesshould consume a balanced diet (fruits and vegetables, grains, fish, dairy, meat, but avoid chicken). They have the best chance of bypassing or overcoming everyday types of diseases, including heart disease and cancer. Type AB types should consume a mostly vegetarian diet, and only on rare occasions some fish, meat (no chicken), and dairy. Type O typesshould basically stick to a high protein diet (including red meat), low carbs, and enriched with fruits and vegetables. They should limit the intake of wheat germ, whole wheat products, corn, and avoid dairy products and most nuts. Type O types are commonly affected with hypothyroidism, high stomach acid (leading to ulcers), and thinner blood with greater resistance to blood clotting. I'm type AB, and have lost 50lbs on Atkins... My mother-in-law on the other hand follows this "blood type" diet, and hasn't lost any weight at all. I'd actually say she's gained. She makes my father-in-law follow this diet too... he hasn't lost any weight either. And to top it off, she is sick more often than I am. I bet you can find pleanty of type A's here who got to their highest weight by eating that prescribed hi-carb/low fat diet. I know where it got me... IMHO it's bunk. =) Cori |
Wow haven't heard that there was a 'blood type' diet before, I agree bunkum.

I think the 'diet' that Cori is referring to is the Eat Right for Your Type Diet - here's an article about whether it's fact or fiction, which you may find of interest.

I'm A+ and it's working great for me. Don't believe everything your told. |
I'm A+ and I've dropped 85 lbs. I'm not sickly either, I think I might have had the flu three times in my life. I think the blood typing is a bunch of bunk.

I'm A+ and I've had no problems

I'm Type O and Atkins is working quite well for me (though the findings indicate that it would). I certainly don't avoid nuts- almonds are one of my favorite snacks.
Take the findings with a large grain of salt. |
If you do an "Advance Search" for " blood type" you can find many threads about this theory. All are full of messages from A+ members who have been successful with this diet :-))
I am A+ lost 35 lbs easily despite of my disadvantage - my age (46). |
there is absolutely no science behind the blood type diet nonsense. Even the argument it is based on is a little shaky I would like to see even one piece of scientific evidence not anecdotal evidence to support this. Until I do I would qualify this in the same realm as tarot card reading, go for it if it makes you happy but don't treat it as fact.

Wow! Who knew that this would be such a hot topic! Thank you for the replies--just thought it was interesting and one of those things that makes you go Hmmmmmmm...
