Question about heavy cream
Today I found pure, organic heavy cream w/absolutely nothing added. The carton says it has zero carbs. Butter is made from heavy cream and I know that it has zero carbs, but should I really trust that the cream has on carbs? All the other cartons I've seen said 1 gram per tbsp, but they also had preservatives and stuff added to them. Anyone know? Thanx.

Heavy cream does have carbs regarless if it's organic or not because of the lactose. If it has less then 1g per seving (that's probably 1-2 tbsp) then they can list it as 0g on the lable.

According to my carb counter, the book by Corinne Netzer, heavy cream has 6.6 grams of carbs in a cup, which means that a tablespoon has just over .4 grams (.4375, if you're the obsessive type :) ).

Thanx, that's what I suspected!

I read somewhere (can't recall right now) that if something says 0 carbs, count it as .5. And if it says <1, count it as 1. I've been sticking to that rule now.

even if it is zero carbs - it is very high in calories! I was using cream several times a day (a bit here and a bit there), and then I estimated I was using about a cup a day of cream (over 800 calories)!! I was still in the pink on the stick everyday yet I had not lost any thing in two weeks. I limited the cream (almost stopped)and this week lost 2 lbs!!
I do miss my homemade Ice Cream Treat - about 1/2 cup of cream every night!!! I am still learning this way of eating. |
