Induction and Constipation
I am someone who unfortunately sufferes chronic constipation, induction is only making this worse. To even have a small BM i have to take senna. What do people do during induction? I am trying to incorporate vegies but it doesnt seem to help much. I drink plenty of water (about 2-3 litres a day) so i am feeling pretty frustrated.

I had it bad too and it seemed to improve after I cut out cream in my coffee. I switched to coffee mate or half-in-half. Still a bit of an issue, but tolerable.
I also started taking magnesium oxide, which is supposed to help. So maybe that had an effect as well. I found it recommended on this forum. Hope you find some solutions here! :) |
I am normally chronically constipated too. I recently finished induction, and what I am doing is using plenty of olive oil, a high dose of vitamin C (1000g, which is excreted if it's not needed, causing loosening of stools) and also I am taking a daily Oxypowder capsule, which contains ozonated magnesium, Organic Germanium-132 and citric acid:

My Fiance turned me on to these all natural caps that work for me. Dr. Schulzes formula one. Not only am I a naturally constipated person..I low carb and take iron supplements for very low iron levels which can be very constipating. Those capsules work for me as close to nature might.

Thanks guys :-) I already take magnesium but will pick up the other suggestions. I am dairy intolerant so have no dairy in my diet at the moment, sub with coconut milk.

Epsom salts, 2 Tsp in water with lemon on an empty stomach. I feel your pain, during the 2ND week of induction I had to get out the enema bag :o It worked, lost about 6 pounds, but the magnesium would likely have worked if I had known about it then. I would avoid stimulant laxatives out of hand. One other trick -- if you can stand it is 1 raw garlic clove a day -- preferably with lunch. Garlic and coconut oil both can work, but you have to get used to them gradually IMO. Another thing to investigate is SIBO or IBS both difficult to diagnose and treat. CO and or garlic can help with both though.

Fiber! I like to stir 3 T of ground flax seed meal into a glass of water and drink it right down. (You might start with one Tablespoon at first.) I try to have this once or twice a day. Flax seed meal is a great source of protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and soluble and insoluble fiber.

Has anyone tried Metamucil? I just purchased some yesterday. I have the same problem.

Coconut oil. I like the taste very much, so it's no problem for me.

metemucil might be fine for ppl that are a little slow but it is a pointless exercise for the chronically constipated, plus it has artifical sweetners in it.

You can get SF, flavor-free Kirkland brand psyllium fiber at Costco. I'm sure there is that type of formulation in the drugstores as well, although I haven't checked personally.

I make a one minute flax seed muffin every day ( induction legal) & it helps. I also took a spoonful of milk of magnesia a few days ago & feel much better since. Good luck.
