bmi and body fat percenatge

is bmi the same as body fat percentage?

Hi CuteBlonde,

No BMI and Body Fat percentage are different things. BMI or Body Mass Index is a formula that determines whether you are in a good weight range for your height.
Here is a BMI calculator: Calculate your Body Mass Index

But this index doesn't take body composition into consideration. Since muscle weighs more than fat, a person with a high weight but very low body fat may appear obese on the BMI. There are several different ways to determine body fat, none of them terribly accurate. A useful thread on the issue is: Using BF% as goal

Just as an example... my BMI is 23.1 but my BF% is 29-30%. Quite different numbers that mean different things.

Hope that helps. :)
