Hidden Carbs in Da Vinci Syrups?

Does anyone know if this is an "absolutely no carb" product?
I have cream that says it has "zero" carbohydrates in one tablespoon, which, I've read here, can actually mean "0.9" -- so I'm concerned that the information (listed in Netrition) for Da Vinci syrup could be equally misleading.

I haven't ordered any yet, but I am hoping to make do with Da Vinci syrup as long as I can't get Liquid Splenda. Is this a stupid idea?

IslandGirl Fri, Jan-18-02 13:14

Yep, it's no-carb.

There's a lot of discussion already in various places about this syrup, did you search the Forum? Amazing amount of information available here.

(a quicker way of "browsing" is to go to the bottom of any Forum page and SORT by Subject Line instead of the usual automatic By Date, and then page through looking for "DaVinci" in the Ds or Syrups in the Ss or Hidden Carbs in the Hs !)

Anyway, the Ingredient List on any product is the way to check out the probable "truth" of the Nutrition Facts label: if no sugars, starches or sugar alchols are listed, there should be no, none, zero digestible carbs...

I've got one here, the SF Hazelnut, and the Ingredients are:
Water, Natural & Artificial Flavors, Cellulose Gum, Sucralose (SPLENDA brand) Sodium Benzoate, Citric Acid..
The Cellulose Gum is an fiber (a vegetable gum) and used in small amounts as a thickener, so it's a digestible-carb-free product.

By the way, this is why DaVinci is THE popular sugarfree syrup because of its quality ingredients. It's also why Atkins Nutritionals has DaVinci make their syrups, because of the quality. That's why I use them for sweetener, together with 'regular' sweeteners, to reduce the carb count from fillers and get a good "synergy" of taste.

Hope this helps?

Where do you find the syrups?

I've looked in the Groceries and at the health food place. Where would they be found?

Judi,
Thanks for your answer :) .

Lessara,
You can order the the syrups on line or over the phone. Click on the blue and white "netrition" icon on the right margin of this page, or try these people:

Lessara,

Just in case you didn't see it in the other DaVinci thread, here is the link for ordering the syrups directly from the company. It appears they sell in both large and small bottles -- and no middle man :) .

IslandGirl Mon, Jan-21-02 12:35

true, no middle man....

if one orders direct, but do the occasional price comparison... many online low carb stores discount the retail price offered by DaVinci Gourmet direct.

(and in Canada, of course, LowCarb FoodExperts  carries them!)

They DO have carbs, up to 6 per cup (1 serving is 1T)

"All of our sugar free syrups contain less
than 1.5 calories and 0.5 grams of carbohydrates per serving and the majority are well below these numbers."

I'm so excited :D . I am waiting for mine to show in the mail!!! :D

Deirdra, fiber (even soluble fiber) is legally and technically a carb but isn't a DIGESTIBLE or Effective Carbohydrate. It's deductible. So UNLESS the Ingredient Lists have changed on any of the DaVinci Syrups, there are zero digestible carbs in any amount, even 1 Cup.

Please do let me (and all of us here) know, if you spot an Ingredient List on a particular sugarfree flavour that actually has a digestible carbohydrate listed... even glycerine/glycerol. That would be great info.

Atkins and DaVinci one in the same?

Islandgirl, you mentioned Atkins Nutritionals has DaVinci make their syrups. Does that mean they are essentially the same product? I'm asking because I can find those without ordering through the mail (hence cheaper and more convenient).

Are Atkins syrups and DaVinci the same thing?

Thanks for a reply!

:)

IslandGirl Mon, Nov-25-02 00:26

Skamito, DaVinci Gourmet makes the Atkins' syrups under contract (and I presume to Atkins' specifications). They are basically the same thing except (and here I'm going on the only bottle I've ever seen) that there are fewer flavours of the Atkins (they pick their flavours), the flavours are natural (not necessarily the same) and the sweetener is Splenda (the same).

I also can assure you that the Atkins bottles are only available in the smaller size and at a higher price for the same size.

Atkins Nutritionals picked DaVinci Gourmet because they pick only recognized quality.

Your choices... hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, Islandgirl. Yes, the Atkins do come in fewer flavors, but they're available for a discounted price at my local Vitamin Shoppe. Mainly looking for a good vanilla, so we'll see.

Thanks again! :)
