Why am I craving peanut butter

Okay, why am I craving peanut butter and peanuts so badly (as well as just feeling hungry all the time in general)? It is like a crazy thing the last week or so. I know Im eating too many carbs, but its like I cant stop myself. I am wondering if I am missing some nutrient. I take a multi-vitamin at night. Then in morning, L-carnitine, L-glutamine, calcium, Multi-b with c, chromium, green tea with ginseng (energy), omega 3....I think thats all of them. Could any of these be the culprits in my cravings? I havent exercised as much in the last month or two as I was doing before. Im sure that hasnt helped matters. Any suggestions would be great. I am really lacking motivation. Plus my dh decided that low carb was not for him after his cholesterol skyrocketed (did I mention he did not follow atkins rules at all, so really he did not do low carb at all, just added more fat to his carbs :nono: . Im done.......help!!!!

Hi,
I dont have any answers for you but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. When I am not on this woe, I never eat peanut butter unless it is homemade fudge. When I am on it, I want p/b everyday. I dont know why but it is odd. I try to get my husband to quit buying it but he wont and i am not strong enough tonot eat it. Some say it is allowed and others will argue with you. I think it does slow you down but there are others who eat it every day and lose.

Good luck to you and I will be checking back to see if you get any answers.

I know what you're saying...to top it off, my kids eat PB sandwiches every day. I bought the Skippy Carb Smart peanut butter...only 3 net carbs per 2 Tblspn. 2 T goes a long way! I found a seven grain bread at my health food store made by Nutrawize...it has 1 net carb per slice (actually a little less as it's one net carb per oz and there's more than 16 slices in the 16 oz. loaf). It has 4 grams of fiber per oz, and under 55 calories per oz! It tastes great too. So, when I need it, I toast a slice and schmear some PB on it...about 1 T. Therefore, just 2.5 net carbs...yummy snack!!

I go through phases like this sometimes. I craved PB quit a lot during one phase. That passed, fortunately! Now I don't crave anything in particular.

As for the nutrient thing--maybe do a search on peanut butter on the 'net and see what nutrients it has. Maybe you're missing them and so crave the peanut butter??

OTOH, I know there are a lot of people on here that crave peanut butter. I did the last time I did Atkins (last year) but not so much this year. The only vitamin I added this time around that I didn't take last time is B-complex (stress tabs) but I see you're taking those. What about magnesium and potassium??

When I craved pb and had some of the sf, I didn't realize how SWEET the regular pb is, and I thought maybe it was actually the sugar and not necessarily the pb.

If you're okay with the lc bread, I'd say go ahead and have a slice of toast with pb (sf, of course!). Or, you could have it on celery? Or, just lick it off the spoon :p :p

I know some people have said peanut butter isn't allowed. That might be because peanuts are actually legumes, and not in the nut family. Have you tried other nut butters? We give my son almond butter. It is soooo delicious! I actually put it out of sight in the fridge because it's so hard to resist.

Hi there,

I saw this at the supermarket and wondered how it tastes.

Would you recommend it?

Thx,

Fred

Don't make yourself suffer. Buy some peanut butter with no added sugar and have a spoon or two a day - it won't kill you! If you are hungry eat more. A piece of cheese or some meat when you feel like it.

OMG peanut butter ... ::drooling:: ( almond butter is even better OMG)

There are other nut butters available too, such as cashew butter. Look at your local health food store or at a grocery store that carries a line of natural foods. They don't usually have any preservatives or sugar, just nuts and oil. VERY expensive but worth it!

Good luck with the cravings!

Frederick
I bought the Skippy Carb Smart my last trip to the grocery store and it's excellent! Very smooth and creamy and you certainly can't beat the carb count! It made a great combo with an Atkins banana nut muffin, YUM!

The best peanut and almond butters are the ones you get fresh at the HFS. They have machines were you actually get to grind your own, just like coffee. So you can see there is nothing but peanuts or almonds in that container.
You can also make your own homemade version. I sometimes put a few almonds in the food processor and grind until it is creamy but still crunchy.

Once you taste these you will NEVER go back to store bought butters.

Love peanut butter. I either get organic or the kind that is not hydrogenated.

As a follow up to Frederick...the Skippy Carb Smart tastes great! I grew up on Skippy. Never liked Jif or health food store varieties (even though I know the health food store ones are better for you)...Has to be Skippy for me, and this doesn't disappoint. I read about it in the NY Post where they also gave it rave reviews.

I go through phases wher eI crave peanut butter or other nut butters extreamly bad. This will last for a week or more, then suddenly I lose all interest in them. Maybe it's low protien or fat, I don't know. I have to be careful those nights though or I will just keep going back to the fridge and stealing fingerfulls of the stuff.
