Do I understand the inches/pounds thing right?

Ok, am I understanding this right? Basically if your not losing pounds, your probably losing inches. And if you are losing inches, it probably don't show on the scale. Can you not lose both at the same time?

generally when people say that they've lost inches but their weight has stayed the same or increased, they have built muscle through exercise. muscle takes up less space than fat and it weighs more. :)

It's not just a muscle issue... your body tends to retain water when you lose fat - so you may be losing fat and not see the result in your measurements, and then, when your body decides it's ok to let go, the water leaves and you lose the inches.

Exercise is definitely a factor though! Muscle weighs more than fat, so you can get trimmer, and stay the same weight, or even gain.

I'm a firm believer in the irrelevancy of the scale. You know how you feel, you know how your clothes fit, and you can see yourself in the mirror, or take pictures... all that is much more important.

You can lose both at the same time, or lose just one or the other, or nothing at all!
