Induction woes

I've done the plan before but gave up for a stupid reason. I am back again and on induction one week. I am on my way to the bookstore to get another copy of the book which I loaned to someone....

I've not dropped one pound and I am exhausted now. I went from energy the first few days to burning holes for eyes. AND BAD BREATH (probably from cheese)!

I'm going to get some Chromium too.

I am having a hard time w/ the carb counts. I am getting 23 carbs per day - cheese and veggies are the culprits. Cheese has always been an issue for me, so I am feeling bad that I'm going to have to "give it up" in order to drop the carb counts.

Any thoughts or suggestions? I LOVE salad, but I'm hooked on the bag salad with cabbage and carrots (because it is easy!). ALSO does anyone have a no carb ceasar dressing recipe they will share? The Bleu cheese is too carby.

GB,

Mary

I think your best advise awaits at the bookstore. But I am sure someone will give you some emergency help here.

My GF is going through some of the same thing. She is not strict when it comes to this WOE and has issues with slow weight loss.

I look at it this way: my desire to lose the extra poundage has to be in direct proportion to my willingness to try something new. Since I KNOW this WOL works (I have too many friends doing so well), then all I have to do is follow the example.

Besides, two weeks of not-very-restrictive eating is not that big a sacrifice. I become concerned when I hear people set themselves up for failure. There are many varieties of bag salad that do not have the carrots, for example. Induction says no carrots. Try switching to the other kind.

Also, my understanding is that you do not have to give up cheese...just moderate it. :)

As for a good Ceaser recipe, I've been using the Kraft Ceaser Dressing from the store...less than 1 carb per serving. Just discovered the Garlic Ranch as well...YUMMY!

Keep yer chin up and forge ahead! Good things await I'm told. :)

hidden valley ranch with bacon has 1 carb/serving

A few of the Paul Newman dressings are under the 2 carb a serving rule.

You can have cheese just make sure it is only 3-4 oz daily and those bags of salad are still very low in carbs so I wouldn't worry. Just stick to the mandatory 2-3 cups daily of veggies and you should be fine.

If you go over a carb or two with veggies it is fine and always remember to subtract the fiber from your carb total.

Got the book again. Thanks for the notes! This book is the New Diet Revolution - updated! There was no such thing as Net Carbs when I practiced before... HMMM.

I LOVE VEGGIES! All kinds (except Okra)! I am lucky there with the exception of wanting more :-)

I went to the store and bought more goodies to replace the "cheese" snacks. I had been easily consuming more than the 4oz per day. I have deli meat (not Oscar Meyer), Tuna, and salmon cream cheese for my celery! I need to go home and cook a tri-tip tonight for snacks for a few days. I don't eat pork or shellfish/seafood.

Fitday is my journal and I'm keeping track.

Thanks and keep your thoughts/advice coming!

Can anyone refer me to a counter that reduces the fiber from the carbs? So far, I've only seen in done on chocolate bars. I want to calculate my true carbs myself. I guess this means I'm not having as many as I thought, right?

:)

Some ideas for you....

The Cheese: You didn't say how you prepare your cheese. If it's right off the block of cheese try shredding it instead of cubing or dicing. Fewer ounces will go a lot farther.

The Salad: I love these bags that come already prepared too! Mine has red cabbage with carrots so it's easy to just pick these pieces out before it lands on my plate.
Or: Get yourself some ziploc bags and set aside one time a week (after shopping maybe?) to make your salad for the whole week. Then the mess is all over with and it's at your finger tips when it's time to eat!

About the bad breath...grab your book and look at Chapter 9, Fallacy #12

Hope these help,

Barb

Fitday.com is a place where you can track food intake if you like. It is free and the daily totals at the top show fiber and carbs so you can manually subtract.

It is a great site to track these things to get you started.

Tell me again why we subtract fiber from carbs??
I'm a newbie. Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Thanks

I love cheese, too.

My solution to stay at reasonable amounts has been to eat more flavourful cheeses.

For example, if I eat mozzarella, I want at least 4 oz. But if I stick to a flavourful cheese like asiago, real parmesan, peppercorn gouda, smoked cheddar, etc... an ounce or two grated on a salad or omlette is plenty.

Pick cheeses that give you the most bang for your buck!

Fiber isn't digested as a carb is. It passes through your body so you don't need to count it.

Veggies good!

I guess I'm not understanding why we subtract it from the carb count??
Is this in the book? I might have missed it.

Thanks for all your information.

Thank you so much. I'm sorry I'm such a nit-wit...but I want to do this the right way.

By the way...I look out for your posts lkonzelman, they are very informative.

Thanks again. :p
