Question re: Splenda in liquid form

Hi everyone.

I have read on this board that liquid Splenda is coming soon to the States and that it will have 0 carbs unlike powdered Splenda, which has carbs, but they are from the maltodextrin or something like that.

So my question is this, if a food item is a liquid and is sweetened with Splenda only (no sugar alcohols) and the label says 0 carbs, is it truly 0 (knowing that the FDA allows a manufacturer to list
"0" carbs if it is .49 and under)? Specifically, the Davinci's syrup are liquid, say zero carbs per serving, and don't have any other ingrediants that would appear to add carbs.

I'd appreciate any thoughts you might have.

Sincerely,

Jill in Phoenix

There will be 0 carbs coming from the Splenda. But as you deduced, there may be carbs from other sources.

Jill,

As Karen said, things may have carbs from other sources. But in general, your theory would hold up - if it is a commerical product that is sweetened from Splenda, I think it would be a safe bet that you would not have any carbs from the Splenda - but other ingredients - ?? Well, depends on the product. Have your tried putting a few of the questionable foods through the Hidden carb inspector to the right of this screen, under Quick Links? That may help you decide.
