Glutamine, or not to Glutamine...

Is it worth taking? I have some decent delayed onset muscle soreness, hasn't bothered too bad, but on weeks where I do my LBWO twice, it does make it a bit more difficult to do the HIIT.

I've been using Optimum Nutrition Protein Powder, and taking some extra vit c in the am, after workouts, and at bedtime. Haven't really been doing the insulin spike thing, not sure how many carbs I would have to eat to do that. My post workout meal usually consist of the above protein powder, carb countdown milk (8 oz) or kefir (8oz), and blueberries (05. to 1 cup)

Carb seem to be between 60 to 80, sometimes a little more. Not sure if the whole insulin spike to decrease cortisol and get more protein into the muscle thing works, and if it would be benificial in one on a lower carb diet. Protein's been around 170 gm from all sources (at least 150 or so from meat, dairy and whey proteins), and with the remainder as fat.

Oh yea, and what the cheapest (by dose) glutamine powder that would be worth using?

Thanks for all the help!

Hi yellowman,

Personally I don't use anything, although I may be sore it eases off during HIIT so doesn't really effect me. Does come back after it though

Others on here do use it and have reported good results with it.

Hi Yellowman,

I don't know about the cheapest by dose source of L-Glutamine powder, I've only actually seen a couple of brands available (GNC's and I think the other was Weider) but that dosen't mean there aren't more.

I do use the powder, but not so much for the soreness (because I actually like feeling that to know that I've worked out hard enough) but I use it because it supposedly helps the muscles rebuild/recover from the workout more quickly which means that your muscles will have a better chance of being fully repaired by the time you work that muscle group again. If you follow the BFL program then you should have 3 days between working the same group but if you want to work on an every second day schedule then you run the risk of working the muscles before they are recovered ,so the L-Glutamine is probably more important to take just for that reason.

I don't know which is the cheapest brand, but I've been useing Pro-Lab's. One mistake many people have made (myself included) was buying the capsules instead of the powder. The powder gives you a much higher dose.
