I just started low carbing and wanted to see if it was compatable with breastfeeding before going any farther.

any advice would be greatly appreciated.

hi lili,

The popular low-carb programs recommend that you NOT follow a severely restricted-carb diet while pregnant or breastfeeding. They encourage new moms to follow their chosen LC program at Maintenance level, to ensure they get adequate energy and nutrition from the diet. Following Atkins at Induction level/ ketosis can suppress the appetite, which runs the danger of a woman not eating enough to provide not just adequate milk supply for her baby, but also proper nutrition for her own body, which needs those months after delivery to recover.
