Carb Blow Out day

Has anyone done this? What exactly do you do? How long of a stall should you be in when you do this? Has anyone thrown up after a carb blow-out day?

I'm going to try to give you a link to a thread that discusses this issue...several replies...

http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthre...ght=stall+break

If the link doesn't work, go to search and type in "stall break" and where it allows you to choose a forum, choose Atkins...

I think you'll find some good info there...

Binging and purging is a serious sign of an eating disorder. If you follow Atkins as stated in the book, there would be no need for a purge. Many people use it in fact to help overcome eating disorders.

For a true stall you have to lose no pounds or inches for 6 weeks. Everyone stalls for a few days or even weeks now and then, that's normal. Atkins is not a quick weight loss diet, it is a way of changing eating habits for life to obtain a healthy weight and overall health. It is also a way of changing the way we think and view food and what we put into our bodies.

It's much more effective to take a look at your menus to see if you are eating things that have hidden carbs, food intolerences, or too much not enough of things. Binging and purging would probably set up more problems. Most bulimics are on the heavy side, that should give a slight hint that it probably isn't an effective weight loss idea for most people.

Oh I'm sorry- I didn't mean purging! I meant, just, did you feel so sick after all the carbs that you threw it up? (NOT by choice)

I have a friend who is doing Atkins, and when she stopped losing weight she did a carb blow out for 2 days and then went back onto Induction and lost ANOTHER 8 lbs in 2 weeks. Do you think this is unhealthy?

Each person is different. Some use regular high carb days to shake things up. For other people one cheat leads to a small weight gain that completely depresses them and throws them into massive treats. It is also easy for some to think "Well that one cheat didn't hurt me, so this one shouldn't either" and it becomes kind of a slippery slope.

You know your body better then anyone else. What works for your friend may not work the same for you. I wouldn't go out looking specificaly to cheat. If you do, accept the concequences which ever way they go. Planned high carb treat sI think can be worked in by modifying carbs for the rest of the day once your beyond induction.

What I see alot of people say when they have a planend cheat day is that they completely gorge themselves and feel miserable after. I don't understand that at all. Better to have a moderate amount of something you really want, then see how you feel after :)

Thanks for the reply ladybelle! :) I think I am going to eat some bread and maybe a cookie..then try and go back to 20 carbs with no nuts or fruit..and see what happens! Wish me luck LOL

Does Dr. Atkins strongly suggest avoiding such behavior because, over time, your body can become less responsive to this change and thus reduce the "kick start" effect?

I know he suggests going back to induction if you cheat, but I also thought I read that he recommended not using it as an excuse to cheat.
