Knee stretches?

I've been running a few miles every morning for about a month now, and my knees are still hurting as bad as they did when I first started. Actually it's the back of the knee where I really notice the pull. (knee pitt). I know that walking is supposed to be better for knees, but I really am hooked on running. Does anyone know if there are any type of stretches or exercises I could do to strengthen my knees? Please help

Lots

Hurdlers stretches--one leg straight, one leg pulled into your crotch, lead forward gently. Then turn the bent leg the other way--foot behind you, lean forward again.

Also--leg lifts with weights; I made weights from cat-food jars filled with water. 15 a day, each knee, no pain. No lifts for two weeks, pain comes back.

Make sure your calf muscles are stretched out, too.

Run on softer surfaces--if you're running on concrete, there's no help for you.

Also--I take silica, and that helps with joint paint for me.

What shoes are you running in? Are they older ones - if so, they might be worn out and you don,t have any cushioning in them. Are they the right ones for you? Do you need cushioning, stability or motion control?

Can I suggest you take your runners into your nearest running specialty store and get them to take a look at them and make sure they are still supporting/cushioning your and they can also take a look at your gait and make sure they are the right kind.

Its amazing what running in the wrong shoe can do to your knees. Something to think of.

Hope they clear up soon!

Thanks for the advice. :)
I will definitely start doing those stretches.
I think I might also purchase some new running shoes,
the one's I have are about two years old, and new shoes could also give me some motivation to go that extra mile.
