Fat Fast or Carbing up?

I read in a book that if you have reached a plateau you could try carbing up or try the fat fast! Has anyone tried either of these?

How long have you been "stalled?" It's not a stall unless you go through 6 weeks with NO weight loss and NO inches lost.

Please be aware that most people experience a huge weight loss during the first two weeks, then nothing for a few weeks. This is very normal, and it's your body's way of just taking some time to adjust to the changes. Things will start moving again on their own, and you'll eventually settle into a pattern. Please know that stalls and plateaus along the way are very normal, and you don't need extreme measures like the fat fast or refeeds to break them. Just stick with, try not to be in a hurry, and wait it out when things aren't moving! This is a marathon, not a sprint.

I know that didn't really answer your question, but it's something all new low-carbers need to be aware of. Fat fast is a very extreme measure that Atkins says should only be used for those who cannot lose weight during Induction. That doesn't seem to apply to you. That said, many people find that they lose weight faster when they eat more fat. Try just adding butter, mayo, oil or fatty salad dressing to almost everything you eat. Increasing your fat percentage often helps.

Hang in there!

The fat fast is ment for people with extream insulin resistance that can't lose weight period, not those who lose weight with occasional breaks. All weight loss programms will involve slow times.

Some people do haev success with the fat fast. Most who try it though complain of being ill after a couple days, and the majority gain all the weight back anyway once they start eating more things.

Why not read the article on the atkins page about dealing with plateaus and try some of those suggestions first. Such as eating a KISS plan, increasing exercise or water, checking for hidden carbs, and so on.

I am on day 3 of the fat fast right now. I am down to 197 from 203 where I had been stuck for 9 months or so. I had to do something drastric because I was getting discouraged. I had cheated (with cookie dough) a couple of weeks ago and I just had to do something.

Nancy B- what kind of things are you eating on the fat fast?

A stall isn't 6 weeks. It's 4 weeks of no loss and no inches lost according to the Atkins site. Get some L-Carnitine or Oil of Oregano supplements. Both of those have been known to break stalls. Plus that way you don't risk gaining anything back.

6 weeks, 4 weeks...I've heard both. The point is, stalls and plateaus are normal. While it's tough when you're in the middle of one, it's important to remember that things will work out in time if you just stick with the basics. I think too many people (myself included) freak out when we're not losing weight and think we have to take drastic measures.
