I haven't been sick since doing Atkins. How 'bout you?

We had that TERRIBLE flu this winter and our hospital was on code PURPLE. I had relatives who would have stayed for a day or two after surgery, being told there were no beds and they could recover in "recovery" and then go home.

Despite all this, I never got the flu or the stomach flu that was also going around.

How 'bout you all? Have you noticed a decrease in catching infectious diseases?

I'm curious because I read a research article last year that said when they studied the reaction of sugar on the human immune system, they noticed that the sugar DEPRESSED the immune system and made it more likely for the host (you and me) to get sick. The sugar virtually shut down the immune system temporarily (I think it was several hours). This is certainly enough time to let in all those nasty germs ;)

I dont know about flus and things like that, but i used to wake up every morning and feel sick to my tummy, and sometimes throw up on a daily basis. Since starting Atkins I havent felt like that since.

Oh Bugspit, you poor thing!

I'm happy that is over for you.

Atkin's solved all kinds of problems for me too. I had nausea almost all the time and had all kinds of minor aches and pains that were just weird and doctors would tell me so

Funny, I just mentioned this in my journal. The last few winters DH, myself and our 2 kids have been hit pretty bad with repeated colds & flus. This year I've been doing pretty well. I have had a couple of times where I felt a cold coming on but then it just stopped. It never turned into a cold and I ended up feeling fine where the rest of my family members developed the full blown cold. No flus at all yet for any of us. Not a bad deal!

I did get a cold ... it wasn't too bad, though. Usually even with head colds I end up with a bunch of crap in my lungs. Didn't happen this time. Of course, that could just be the type of virus it was; no way to tell, really.

My knees, thankfully, have pretty much stopped hurting, which is amazing, as they have been giving me fits for about three years now—and I still have at least 28 pounds to go to reach my goal!

I feel much better in general and have more energy. I think this WOE is a healthy one, and that you have more immunity to whatever is going around when you eat healthy (and wash your hands often).

My problem is what to do with all the time I used to spend sitting on the sofa, eating and watching tv. My house is SO clean ~smile~ I need a hobby.

Although I did get the flu shot this year for the first time, I have'nt even had a cold, my son has had a few and has had the mild flu, but I have just gone along now for over a year without anything.
That sugar thing does make sense :>)

Cheers Kathy

I have been thinking about this here latley. I work in a small office just me and another girl and our boss. He gto sick first with the flu and then she fell ill with it and they were sick for over a week. I was very scared I was going to get it too. I have yet to be sick. Three months now and nothing more than a slight headache or stomache bloat now and then.

I got a bad cold right when I started this WOE, I never got the flu and I didn't miss any work. Other than that my allergies are much better. I used to wake up every morning all stuffed up. Now it's just every once in a while. Also, I get fewer less migraines.

Well, I was hoping, but I got laid out with the flu right after Christmas.
However, it didn't develop into bronchitis, as previous flu bouts had a habit of doing.
I figure it was a bunch of antibodies I needed :)

Sick as a dog. Chronic, constant colds and sinus infections.
But I also have 2 toddlers in daycare. They bring it all home and share their "kid crud" with me.

I have not been sick once since I started 4/03. Watch now I will get a cold LOL.

kmmer Thu, Jan-22-04 11:55

I have been sick an unusual amount since November. I have had 2 bouts of the stomach flu, bronchitis, an ear infection and another cold. I started this WOE March 2003 and have stayed very close to induction so I havent added fruits back into my diet. I take a multi-vitamin but am going to add extra "C" in hopes that this will help.

No flu or colds yet....knock on wood. However, I've been to Vegas twice in the last 4 months and each time, I've gotten a sinus infection. Don't know if it's due to the dry air, the smoke in the casinos, or what, but it hasn't been much fun.

OHGal1415 Thu, Jan-22-04 12:07

I'm investigating possible thyroid and ferritin issues for me. I also have the VERY low body temp, which along with chronic sinus infections and brittle hair, are hallmarks of thyroid problems.
