Nitrate Free Bacon
 

Ok I can't find this stuff anywhere. Who really eats nitrate free bacon, and what is the nitrate stuff anyway?

You may be able to find it at a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods/Fresh Fields natural foods grocery store. Not sure what's available in your area. Most regular grocery stores don't carry it.

I get nitrate-free bacon at my local butcher shop. I can also get Sugar-Free bacon from my Healthfood Store. It's made by Rowe's. You'll have to special order it though. Apparently, there isn't much demand for it. :rolleyes:

There is no such thing as Nitrate-Free and Sugar-Free bacon yet (that I am aware of). I personally think I prefer the Nitrate-Free bacon. It's not as salty. My mom loads up on it to take home when she comes to visit. However, I've heard that all the bad press about nitrates was based on faulty research. I posted a link about this if you do a search.

I'm in Newmarket so my butcher is probably too far away. I would think that Whole Foods or The Big Carrot would have what you are looking for. You're looking for Nitrate-free? If you have no luck, I will ask my butcher if anyone in Toronto carries it. He told me he got it from a Mennonite (or was it Amish?? :confused: )farm in Guelph.

Don't worry about nitrates in relation to the diet. They have no bearing on your weight loss. It's just something people say isn't good for us. I don't feel like wandering all over creation trying to find something that barely exists and costs more to boot. Stick to the big issues and don't worry about the extraneous things.
