I'm so upset I've been sticking to my plan so well and then the other day I bought some sugar free orange metamucil well it tasted so sweet to me that I then went and bought origanal flavor well after i took it this morning I saw sugar at the bottom of my glass, I'm so upset I don't know what to do does any one know how much damage I did?

about 5 carbs worth
I had the old constipation problem and thought Metamucil! I looked at the jug and it had 5 carbs in the sugar free kind per serving. I was mad too. You didn't do that much damage....about 5 carbs, but it is maddening when they promote it as sugar free and then add things that give it more carbs.

Yes, alas ... Metamucil contains maltodextrin as a filler, over and above any sweetener used. Maltodextrin is the filler used in powder or scoopable forms of artificial sweeteners, and it does contribute carbs & calories. Not as much as sugar, but still ...
Many folks find it less expensive to buy plain ground psyllium husks at a health foods store. There's no fillers or sugar added, so you know exactly what you're getting. :) Doreen |
well, yes the sugar free metamucil does have 5 carbs, but they are all fiber!!! I have been taking a teaspoonfull per day since day one, and as far as I can see, it is not having a negative influence on me at all. hope this helps...

Accoding to the Metamucil website one dose of metamucil .. whether it's sugar-free or with sugar ... contains 3.4g ground psyllium husk powder. The remainder of the carbs come from the maltodextrin filler and from sugar if you have the "regular" type. A one-teaspoon dose of sugar-free has 5g carbs ... 3.4g from the fiber and 1.6g from the maltodextrin filler. :read:
