Try tablets like Tylenol Cold (there's both a day and night version) instead of syrups or liquids. No carbs.

I don't know of anything like Nyquil. You could take benadryl, which will help your nose and make you sleep, but won't help your cough. They do have SF cough syrups on the market now. I know because I took one a couple weeks ago. Still tastes just as gross. They use sugar alcohols instead of real sugar. I hope you feel better soon!!!

Bonzlee,Tofi.. :agree: .thanks for suggestions
I just never have a cold nor those around me the last few yrs But then I wasnt watching my carbs of course.....
For the cough thought I'd make my own "brew shot". 1 teaspoon brandy & splenda water. Blowing the nose a lot, but doing much better. Thanks  ....
Have a great day ya'll.

Look in the diabetics section of the pharmacy. They have special sugar free versions of cold medicines, cough syrup and so on.

If you can't find it, ask the pharmacist. In some places they keep diabetic supplies behind the counter (heaven knows that's what will be shoplifted :eye roll: )

For stuffy noses breathing in steam can really help. Put some rosemary in the water, put a towl over your head like a tent and breath deep. I generaly just take suddafed for stuffy noses.

My cough recipe involves an onion and honey so that's out :/ Honey isn't good to take if your mucusy anyway. It's good for a sore throat without stuffy nose, but if your stuffy it can thicken mucus and make things more uncomfortable.

check out the diabetic cold medicines. I know that they make a few brands for diabetics that do not contain sugars at all. They are most likely not made with Splenda, but you gotta take what you can get.

Good luck.

NyQuil gelcaps are fine to take -- since there's nothing to taste, they don't need to use any sugar for flavoring, and they work just as well as the syrup. If you're sick enough to need prescription cough syrup, the pharmacist can mix you a sugar-free version if you ask for it.

What about Buckleys cough/cold medicine?? It "tastes awful but it works". Can't be much sugar in that stuff!! :p

I just came down with my first LC'ing cold today and read the ingridients on the box of Dayquil gel caps. Like the Nyquil, I was happy to find no sugar. so that would be a daytiem non-drowsy option. Sugar was listed as the second to last ingridient though on my store brand version of Sudafed-- so that's out.

Ah've got a code in mah nose, too.

Alka-SeltzerPlus is my cold med of choice. The inactive ingredients -- acesulfame potassium, aspartame, citric acid, flavors, magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, sodium bicarbonate, sorbitol -- sound fairly safe. Perhaps 1 carb for the maltodextrin? Right now relief is more important than haggling over one or two carbs.

Bottoms up!
