Converting from W.W.

Well, I am going to give this low carb thing a shot !!! I know a little about it but,am going to try and learn more.
I have been struggling for 2 years with my weight.I lose,I gain,I lose and gain again.I think I FEEL DEPRIVED when I follow W.W. and eventually end up on a binge.I have tried adding more protein to my diet and definately felt more satisfied but,I never did it consistently.
So,This is my plan.I am beginning Atkins induction and plan on following it as written.
I am somewhat afraid, but excited at the same time.I really think the low carb lifestlye is what will work, but have been so programmed to eat carb-rich foods for so long, this is a BIG change for me.
I am hoping to meet some friends and hope we can start a daily accountability tread to help each other.
I will need a lot of support!!!!

Okay,I am going to start weeding out the pretzels and low fat cereal bars.I am trying to write down a Induction style shopping list.Any suggestion are welcome.
Thanks,Stacy

Welcome Stacy. A few pointers...don't forget that this is a way of eating and not a diet. If you don't have a copy of the book - get one! You will find yourself referencing it often. Drink lots of water. Take your measurements. Buy some good vitamins and enjoy!

Bacon, eggs, cheese, salad greens, and fresh meats. I think you should always keep this stuff around.

yeah...i like to keep at least 6 hard boiled eggs around for snacking....some kind of meats and seafood options...always have to have mushrooms and cauliflower or broccoli around. but be careful....carrots, tomatoes, onions and water chestnuts are all high in carbs even though they are allowed in induction. Just being aware of what you consume is a big step girl!!....you just keep it up and never look back!! Youre doin GREAT!!!

Hi and welcome! I was on WW years and years ago and can sympathize with your loss/gain thing. I could do it for a while, then would just be so hungry I had to eat! Atkins is oooohhhh sooooo different! I don't go hungry anymore. When I'm hungry, I eat, and sometimes I eat a ton of food. The other evening, DH and I stopped in at Red Robin and I was starving. I ordered the Baja chicken which is two big chicken breast pieces and a huge salad. I ate the entire thing and felt like I could've eaten more! DH was shocked to say the least, LOL.

It can be a real trick switching over from the LF to LC mentality. Sometimes when I get hungry and don't eat for a bit, I find myself thinking, 'Oh, this is good--I'm hungry, I'll lose weight!' Wrong!! I have to slap myself in the face and say, 'Hey--you're hungry--eat or you WON'T lose weight!' And believe me, that is very true with this WOE. If I want to stop weight loss all I have to do is not eat enough for two or three days.

Thank You All For The Welcome

Well,It's offically Jan,1st 2004 and I am officaly beginning the switch over from W.W. I must say I am SOOOO ready to begin eating healthy and get off the binge that I have been on for 2 months.I managed to gain 15 lbs!!!!!!

I am not looking a this as a diet, even though I am beginning with the induction phase.I really am committed to changing the way I eat as well as my familys.I have 3 girls and I really hope to teach them a better way to eat.We live on low fat, processed, quick fix foods and I know in my heart if we continue to eat this way they will all have weight problems as well.

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!!!

Stacy

Hi

Just wanted to pop by and say welcome and good luck !!

Why not consider starting a journal, I love looking back at mine, to review my weight loss over the last few months. You can also read and post to other people's journal's - many of them are really inspiring, and everyone is so helpful and motivating !!

Good luck with your with the Atkins WOL - its certainly improved mine for the better!!

happy new year

Hi Stacy,
Welcome to the low carb way of life. Since you have three daughters I think teaching them to stay away from the sugar and flours would be just a great thing to give to your daughters. You have already gotten the best advice, buying the Atkins book, starting a journal and let me add get the high carb foods out of your house. I'm a firm believer in out of sight out of mind. For the sugar cravings you will no doubt have L-glutimine 3 times a day 500-1000 mg before meals, great help. Ask questions and go to other journals. This is the best place for help. Good luck and keep focused.
