Interesting water consumption calc

Just read an article that gives you a minimum recommendation of how much water you should be drinking:

your current weight x 0.04 x 2 x 8 = total min ozs.

Mine came out quite a bit higher than the recommended 64oz + 8 oz for every 25 lbs to lose.

They say half of this amount should come from plain water, the rest from heathful beverages and foods. They also remind people to increase with exercise and increased temperatures....

Interesting eh?

Are you supposed to use your weight in pounds?

I wonder why they they just didn't use a factor of 0.64?

I figure the 0.04 is pints/pound and the x2 is to convert to cups and the x8 is to convert to ounces.

Atkins mentions drinking, in ounces, about half of your body weight in pounds.

I think both of those are not very applicable to someone heavily overweight.

But do notice that they indicate that you should be drinking half of that in water and getting the other half from other drinks and food. The 64oz+ rule only applies to the actual water - the water content of the food we eat (which is usually quite significant) is ignored.
