1st day of Pilates-OW!!!

Today I did my 1st day of Pilates with Denise Austin and WOW does my body hurt.
I am so pathetic that I only got thru half of the actual Pilates -I made it thru the 1st 7 min of stretching then the other was SO HARD- :hyper: :hyper:
Please someone tell me it gets easier -
Is it ok to gradually get into it ??

Hopefully I can still type by tomorrow-Even my fingertips are sore(ok big lie !!!LOL)

Thanks for any advice!!!

Jenny,

Yes, it does get easier! I haven't seen the Denise Austin pilates tapes, but I started the Winsor Pilates a month ago. There is a person on the video doing the exercises with modifications for a "delicate" back, neck, etc., and at first I could only do those. But now I do most of them without modifications.

If it helps, I can guarantee that you will see your stomach literally melt away, so it is worth every bit of torture! :wiggle: I do the twenty minute workout every day and I just can't believe how flat my stomach is getting AND my thighs are an inch thinner AND it's only been a month! And for the first three weeks I did the workout three times a week.

So hang in there and enjoy the changes to come!

Does that help?

Good to hear!

Thanks for the input Karla... Jenny I'm with you!!! I have the windsow pilates set and the 20 minute workout I thought was killer! I can do it but barely!!! Have only done it about 3 times but I can tell it is definetly getting easier. I sure hope to see my belly melting away!!!! Maybe someday I can "graduate" to the 50 minute tape. Karla have you done it yet? Is it REALLY tough? I haven't mastered the leg work on the 20 mn tape I don't think as it seems too easy... Must need to focus more.. Who knows. I'm determined so I'm sure I'll get it........ I hope.

Keep up the good work ladies! Remember I'll be working my powerhouse right along with you! :)

I haven't tried it - but I read on the Atkins forum that someone lost 17 inches, went from a size 24 to a 16 in a month!!! I'm going out today to get a tape!!!

Keep up the great work...the pain will subside

Even if that is true - it really isn't a realistic goal. But I know from lots of people on the forum that it is an effective way to lose inches.

But then again most exercise is... so find what you like and be consistant.

As a matter of fact, I just watched the 50 minute workout and am absolutely positive that if I tried some of those maneuvers, I'd be paralyzed for life! Some of the exercises are the same as in the 20 minute workout, but there are some even better and more difficult ones as well.

When I can do all the exercises on the 20 minute workout as easily as the people on the tape, THEN I'll try the 50 minute workout. :) After all, I've only been doing this for a month - sheesh!

Thanks everybody for posting to my thread

I am going to keep up on it but boy do I feel fat when I do it because I can't do half the stuff Denise Austin does but then I look at her body and how long she has been doing exercise videos and realize that someday I will be to that point-

Can I just fast forward to the rewarding part and see myself skinny!!!!???

Thanks for all the support!!
Good luck to everyone else doing Pilates!!!

Can't wait to see results-Now you guys have got me motivated to see how I look and feel in about a month!!!

:hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Thanks-Jenny

Just ordered the winsor tapes - advanced body slimming and upper body sculpting...can't wait!!
:hyper:
Anyone have these?

Iowagirl Mon, Jun-23-03 12:31

Did my tapes - I can see where the abs would melt...mine were certainly cooking! :D

Zora Tue, Jun-24-03 11:10

I have the Winsor Pilates tapes, but they have been sitting on my video rack along with the rest of my fitness tapes. After reading this thread, I think it is about time I blow the dust off of them and get moving! Thanks for the inspiration!

Iowagirl Tue, Jun-24-03 11:18

Which do you have? I bought the 'slimming' and the 'upper body'. Didn't care for the second one - didn't seem to do much for me. Definately will repeat the slimming and hope it does what it says!

Yes it does get easier. I love doing pilates. I always have this burst of energy when I am done. It is the greatest thing and you will see results right away. Just stick with it, it is well worth it.

Could I ask how old everyone is who's doing the Pilates? I'm 54--is it suitable for someone this age? Right now I'm walking and tomorrow I have an appt. at the gym to set up a weight-lifting program, but I'd like to do some other things just for variety.

Thanks!

I am 37 yrs old but after doing Pilates I feel like 100 -LOL

Good luck!!

coolazchic Tue, Jun-24-03 15:32

I am 27. I think it would be suitable for a 54 year old. I am as out of shape as they come and if I can do it, anyone can do it. It really firms up the muscles and gives you definition.
