Vitamen Regimen?

I was wondering what people were taking vitamin, mineral, and supplement wise? In the book, Atkins, suggests several different things and I was wondering what people were using.

I am taking 1 simply one women super nutrition multivitamin daily, 1 acetyl l-carnitine 250mg daily, 1 chromium picolinate 200mg daily, 2 Udo's Choice oil capsules w/ each meal, and 1 l-glutamine 500 mg w/ each meal. So far, I feel really good when I take them. When I forget I can feel it. Also, the glutamine really does cut down sugar cravings.

Let me know what you all are taking! :wiggle: :yay:

I take a central multi
1 L-glutamine (sometimes more)
1 L-carnitine (500 mg)
1 chromium picnolinate

If I'm being really good, I take a B-50 (time released) and a kelp, as both are good for thyroid function and will help support a sluggish thyroid (helps with metabolism).

Hi all! I take just a multi-vitamin. I cannot find
L-glutamine, L-carnitine, chromium picnolinate or any of the fats/oils here that are recommended on the Atkins web site. I am going to America on the 18th - so I will check the drug store there - but I am not willing to pay the postage the Atkins site charges and then customs as well :nono: on those expensive (on that site) items. :read2: <- The customs guy with a big, fat bill!

Anyway, if anyone here happens to know of where to find these things in Germany (riiight! LOL!) please drop me a PM and let me know!

:D

I take a good multivitimin. It does include iron despite Atkin's recommendation that it shouldn't. I don't eat much red meat so I left the iron in.

2 Calcium/mag per day

1 borage/flax/omega 3 oil

500mg l-carnitine

I take one generic multivitamin a day. I can't stand to take horse pills, which most vitamins are.

4beans4me Fri, Feb-06-04 09:18

In the beginning I took a generic multi-vitamin, but have been slacking the last few months and taken nothing..

Beware the chromium picolinate. I'm tossing mine out & finding a different way to suppliment chromium - apparently it has some severe side-effects. Like, genetic ones. Every dr & nurse I have spoken to about it has said, yep, toss it.

I take the flintstone vitamines lol *blush* .
Its just that most vitamin pills are so nasty :p , its not fair ! kids get good ones and I saw some chewables flavord ones for women , but nothin for guys . So i got the kids ;)

Be Aware!

What suzanneM has said about chromium picolinate is very true. Several studies have been done which show that the supplement cause DNA mutations and actually enters cell walls, and "stays" there. Doing a search on Google will lead you in the right direction.

However, all is not lost. These same studies say that a different Chromium supplement in the form of Chromium Polynicotinate does not the produce the same mutations and is safe for use.

I take 200mcg a day of the "Chromium Polynicotinate" version.

Boy, I take a whole s*&t load, mostly because I recently had a cervical disc fused, and I am only 37 years old. Anyways, here is my list............

Generic Centrum
Calcium
Magnesium
L-GLutamine
L-Carnatine
Co-Q10
Flax seed oil
Glucosamine
Potassium
Vit. E
Super Omegas

It's a meal in itself!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anybody think thats bad for me??????

Aysiama Sat, Feb-07-04 08:30

I take:
Generic Centrum type multi that I get at Sam's(member mark) with iron.. i cannot afford vits w/out
3-calcium/mag/D/etc. generic of caltrate plus that I also get at Sam's
Vit C 1000 mg 2/day
Vit E 400 IU
L-glutamine (sp?) on days I crave food
I add potassium and magnesium when I have symptoms that need those
I couldnt stomach fish oil caps.. so I eat 3 Tbl. flax seeds ground a day for some healthy oils.

IdahoSpud Sat, Feb-07-04 09:15

Here's what I take and why:
Good multivitamin - because at 1500-2000 cal per day, you probably aren't eating balanced everything
Chrome Picolinate - to stabilize blood glucose
Vitamin E - because the multi doesn't have enough of it
Super omega complex - to get essential Omega 3,6,9 Fatty acids

There's probably more I could take, but I flatly *refuse* to take more pills than my grandmother :)

LadyBelle Sat, Feb-07-04 12:14

I used to take a massive list. Then I got sick of it and cut back :)

Now I just take
Twin Labs One a Day with Iron
Potassium
Calcium +D
Vitamin C
and Vitamin E

I have GTF Chromium, which contains brewers yeast, and yeast fighters, but as these seem contradictory I've stopped taking the yeast fighters while I take the GTF to see if that helps. If not I won't rebuy the GTF and go back to yeast fighters and diet :)

IdahoSpud Sat, Feb-07-04 12:54

Hmmm... scary about the chromium. Thanks for that. I think I'll skip it from now on.
